do you have to have phone cards in those detention facilities? or does your phone not except calling cards. I've read where people don't have access to phones much. Do you send them money like you do for regular jail? if so that would just be a money order and they'd probably use is A# to receive. not sure though.

Upon arrival in most detention facilities detainees can make collect calls, but not to cell phones obviously. Also, many facilities allow detainees to purchase one calling card right upon processing, but only if they have the cash with them.

If you search this site you'll find answers to your questions. This thread is about a particular facility only.

In general the phones are very available to detainees, both in some of the holding tanks on the way into the facilities, and by the time they get settled.

But be aware that it can take a very long time from when picked up to even into a cell and bed. In California the average time from pick up at county jail to a bed in a cell at the detention facility is 30 hours. Thirty hours in a van, a bus, and moving from one holding tank to another in more than one facility until the final destination. That means a while locked up in first a van, then later a different bus, in different cold holding tanks some with phones, some with not, etc. So these people are exhausted by the time they get to the final destination, and may not be awake and interested in getting to a phone until something like 40 hours after being picked up by ICE.

Mandee, did you find him? When my guy was picked up he was able to call rom a tank at a processing center in Houston to let me know where he was headed next. The next day I called that unit and verified he was there but he didn't call me. The next day I went to go visit him and found out the reason he couldn't call nce he got to the unit is because they were out of beds in general population so he was in a single cell until some beds came open the next week. During those days it was very hard for him to get a guard to take him to a phone. It was a private facility with lots of problems and they were not following Homeland Security rules. However, once he got to a dorm in general poopulation he was calling all the time.

actually he is still here in NC, they had him under the wrong name. He thinks he'll be moved next week to georgia, His reason for not calling is cause i told him the phone bill was $100 (i wasn't complaining) and he didn't want me to have to pay more money.

Default Rolling Plains

you can send a money order - name and A number, Rolling Plains Regional Detention Center, P.O.B. 877, Haskell, Texas 79521.
Depending on the last name, visitation is Saturday OR Sunday. 2 adults and kids allowed at visit. Visitation is 2 hours. If max security, it is a non-contact visit, otherwise, it is a contact visit.

If they are in an immigration detention facility the only way they can call you is if you have a phone account set up (and they can tell you connection fee and how much per min) or the inmate can buy a phone card...
