Collect calls from Menard Prison, IL

Hi,
does someone know about the phone rules at Menard Prison, Illinois?

I also wonder how the telephone list is approved by the prison... Do they call people requested to be added to the phone list? Do they write to your home and ask if you would accept calls from the prisoner? Do they check the address at all?

The phone systems at Menard! Well for starters you are put on a list by the inmate and that is put in his list of numbers that he can call in the computer. Menard don't call, write or check out your address. You will though get (at least I did) a paper from that phone company on how much you are will to spend for calls from this inmate each month. Kinda like a limit. For ex. if you only want to spend $50 each month for those phone calls then you put an X in that box and that company will put that limit on your phone and if you go over it your loved one can't get ahold of you until the next month. I've had pretty good luck with there phone systems. They have messed up Ron and my phone calls 2-3 times but they make sure that Ron can get through. Your informations helped me a lot! I contacted the phone company and had a little chat with them about the way it works.. Thanks god, I'm sure to find a way to get all that stuff solved :-)

Well, had another chat with Illinois Consolidated about the collect calls from Menard.
I was told that they charge $3,75 connecting fee plus $0,95 per minute for an interstate call - not international!

Are those guys crazy?

Michelle, those rates that Brena is talking about seem really high! Are your charges anywhere close to this? I'm going to find out this week what that prisons contracted rate is for billing calls. It'll save time if I know the phone company...it's not Mci, Sprint At&T... but Illinois consolidated?
