California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility, Corcoran (SATF)Topic and discussion specific to CSATF- Substance Abuse Treatment Facility located at Corcoran State Prison in California.
My son, Chad is a Level 3 but, has been in PC (protective custody since he was attacked and raped in his cell one night when he got back from work. PC is a small cell in which they can only write and receive letters and reading material sent directly from an authorized store. I use Amazon.com. All of his personal property, TV, CD Player, Guitar, food he purchased from the commissary, and food and many other items he was sent in a package he had received was put in storage. He stayed clean and worked very hard to be able to have the privilege of getting these items. After over 60 calls to the Prison and threats of sending in a private attorney and asking to speak to the Warden. he is finally getting the justice he deserves. Is being treated very well and should be moving to a Prison closer to where I live any day now. He will be sent to a softer section of Salinas Prison, known as the SNY (Sensitive Needs Yard). He is still pretty much traumatized and will receive Counseling. I can finally take a break. I think just about every department at Corcoran knows me :~). He was allowed to call me Monday and he sounded pretty good. So, if you have any questions about Corcoran State, I may be able to answer them.

My husband is in Corcoran but is in ADSEG/level 3 he has been there in ADSEG for 6 1/2months. He has been in Corcoran for about a year and a half but was there before for a year then he got sent to Susanville. .I've been trying to find out who I can talk to about his case. He was sentenced to a 15month SHU term for something he didn't do, so if you know anyone I can contact. It would help. Thanks
If he has been found guilty and sentenced to do this time, there is not much they can do for him on the inside. He would have to file an appeal for a new trial. Call the Prison at 559-992-8800 and push 0 when the guy asks for ext. #'s and tell the person who answers what you want to know. She will direct you to that person. write down the Dept., the name and ask for the ext.# of anyone you talk to. If you are told by anyone they can't help you, ask to be referred to someone who can. Be pleasantly insistent for an answer. I hope this helps and you will get some answers. My thoughts are with you.

Does anyone have a list of things that I could send in a package to someone in Corcoran? I wanted to send him a leather journal, but it has a leather tie-strap on it, and I am not sure if they will allow it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Things change so often at Corcoran, it's always best to call before you send anything you might not be sure of. Call the Mail room at 559-992-8800 ext. 7759. There are a lot of rules. They have to stay alert, watching for that "file in a cake", you know :>)..

I know the quarterly packages have been stopped. There is talk of them being ok again, though but no one knows when. This has happened before. I do know books 2 at a time can be sent. Yet, today I was told by an officer they can have only one in their cell at a time? My son, Chad just wrote thanking me for the two books he had just received? They were shipped from Amazon.com on 9/11. Like I say, you just can't ever be sure. Everytime I go to visit, I call to ask what colors Cannot be worn. I was told no blue or tan. My son wore green. Well, that was not acceptable because it also says in the Visiting Rules Pamplet, any color the people working there wear is also a no no. And, the color of green was just too close to the guards uniforms. They do have a wardrobe building where you can go to pick out something that is acceptable. To be on the safe side, I would never wear solid colors. Again, always call first unless your one of the lucky ones who get to visit often enough to know what to know all the rules.

If your loved ones have any serious problems with abuse or injustice of any kind, you can e-mail Mr. Ken Hudle, the Ombudsman who represents the Inmates and he will investigate the issue. His e-mail is khurdle@executive.corr.ca.gov . He is very thorough and responds within a few days. Make sure you are being told the truth though, because his time is very valuable.
