HI I'M GOING TO SEE MY SON FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A YEAR; HE IS AT PELICAN BAY THE RANCH. IF ANYBODY HAS ANY INFO I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
THANK YOU WENDY
Since you had some specific visitation questions for Pelican Bay, I have moved this thread to the Pelican Bay forum on PTO as we have a special forum dedicated to it, and so your post will have the opportunity to get more specific responses and the best answers to your questions, and won’t get lost in the busy Visitation forum... I’ve found they often get more and better answers there, AND the information will be here to help others in the future, too.
You also might want to thumb thru the Pelican Bay forum to see if some of your questions have already been answered in the past... the direct link to the forum is here:
Wendy I will go through my experience of the 1st part of visiting process, I hope this helps.
If you’re not driving then there is a free hospitality bus that will pick you up from your hotel and take you to the prison.
I don’t know what the visiting times are at the Ranch I’m afraid.
You then go into the reception area where you take a piece of paper from the CO’s at the desk, fill in the inmates name and # and then your details.
You give that slip back with your ID and wait to be called, when you are called you need to take off your shoes and a belt and any jewellery that may not get through the metal detector put it in a box provided, walk through the detector and off you go!!!!!
If you call this number 707 465 1000 listen to the recording and find your way to the visiting extension I’m sure they will help you out a lot more, they should be able to send you a visiting brochure as well, that way you know what the dress code is.
My experiences at Pelican Bay are strict dress code, the hospitality house does have donated items of clothing incase you get cut short but I would say its best to be safe and take a 2nd outfit.
I always go in black and cream only because I know that’s what I can wear and they can be strict on certain sandals/flip flops/beach shoes, so it’s best to wear plain shoes or boots.
I don’t know if this has helped much but feel free to ask away!

The level 1 yard is called the Ranch but it is not a ranch in any other way. It is on the same grounds as the prison but outside of the main fencing. It is two large dorm buildings along side of a large outside area. The outside are has a chain link fence but you can actually see the nearby mountains and lots of trees and greenery. There is a large grass field, baseball diamond, volleyball, basketball, handball, and a track around the edge. Also some bars for pulls ups and working out. There are some smaller surrounding buildings which include the visitation room. Visits are on Sat and Sunday from 8:30 to 3:00. They are full contact visits with games, cards, and TV available.
