Established in August of 1994 with a Trusty Camp, followed by the Psych Unit in 1995, and the Western Regional Medical Facility in 1996, the Montford Unit is CID (Correctional Institutional Division) – Psychiatric Facility. The 1,304 acre unit has a capacity of 994 males.
It is located two miles Southeast of Loop 289 on Highway 84, in Lubbock County.
Montford Unit is located on the southeastern edge of Lubbock. It is located just south of the Loop 289 and Hwy 84 intersection.
If traveling from the south on Hwy 84 from Post, you will see the Montford Unit signs and the unit about a mile before the Loop 289 intersection.
If traveling from the north (including from Lubbock International Airport), take I 27 down to the Post/Slaton exit. You are on Hwy 84, so follow it out a couple of miles—including under the Loop 289 overpass. You will see Montford to the west once you drive about another mile. You will see signs.
If traveling from east or west, go to Loop 289 and follow it around to the Post/Slaton (Hwy 84) exit. Take Hwy 84 south for about a mile until you see the Montford signs and the unit to the west.
