Corcoran 2 Questions
My son just got sent from DVI Tracy to Corcoran 2.
I did a search but didn't find what I'm looking for, so I'll ask my questions here of those of you who have had the Corcoran 2 experience.
1.) Visiting:
Normally he goes to reception first, right? Just like when at DVI? And that would mean behind glass visits, right?
However, my son didn't go to reception, he got placed directly in Level 4 "temporarily" due to overcrowding and the fact that he and a bunch of others got moved out of Tracy because of the riots and other problems going on there.
So, what kind of visiting is it in this circumstance...behind glass or contact? And how long before visits are allowed?
2.) Motels/Dining:
Are there any inexpensive, clean motels in the area where I can safely take my very pregnant daughter in law and one year old granddaughter and have us be safe? And any places to eat, or is it out in the middle of nowhere?
3.) Medical:
Is there a hospital nearby (in case she goes into labor...)?
3.) Anything else that it is important to know and specific to Corcoran 2:
I do know I can call the hotline for dress code stuff and to bring my little clear plastic purse...but anything else I need to know? I presume I don't need to reapply for a visiting pass and the one I used at Tracy will work at Corcoran 2 right?
Thanks for the help!

I would call Corcoran directly.. Unfortunately, because of the reason he is there, he may not have any visits what so ever. Do you know if they are holding him there temporarily? Is he permanently moved? Did he take his property with him? This just seems like a complete mess! You mentioned that normally he goes to reception, this would be true but these arent normal circumstance, they are emergent circumstance.
Just FYI.. if you are approved at one california institution, your approval for visit will or should follow you to the next. I however, as a just incase (computers are foulable) take my yellow approval form with me, on the first visit to a new institution. That way there is no question I am an approved visitor.

Thanks Ms. Clever.
I do think he took his stuff with him, but he didn't tell me that. I am just assuming he would have told me if he didn't get to take it. And he told me he still had writing paper, so that must mean he has his belongings with him....I will clarify though.
I tried calling Corcoran 2 this morning and it says the number is disconnected...tried several times and checked the number against the website and the number we were given when we called Old Corcoran by mistake yesterday. !
Any idea if there is a way to get an alternative number?
Guess I better check on the visiting. It never occurred to me that under the circumstances he might not get visiting at all! Geez.
Thanks for the info.

My best friend is there, but I've never been there. Wish I could help. I can't visit any prison though, so I'm no help on these things, sorry. Good luck! Love and Respects--Helen

Crst.. Your welcome.. I would simply call information, you know 411 .. and get the general number for Corcoran. Then I would hound Corcoran 1 to give you a valid number for 2.. if all you are getting is disconnected tones! That is sooo Iritating to me.. =0I Hi.. I want to speak to a real person.. Good luck and let me know what happens.. Thanks..

Well, I finally got through. The number was correct, so they must have been having phone problems. I got disconnected twice while waiting for a live person, so that's what makes me think that.
Anyway, 3 long distance calls later, the bottom line?
I got a guy who said he knew nothing and couldn't answer any of my questions. He said he is responsible "for the movement of all inmates in the prison" and "just gets stuck with answering the phone on the weekend." He said to call back Monday.
My tax dollars at work.

My husband is in Corcoran 2. He was able to get visits the following weekend he was there. But he is in A yard and a level 2. I am not sure what yard your loved one is on.
The best place I found to stay in Corcoran is the Corcoran Country Inn, it is located at the end of Whitley ave past the McDonalds, end of town. It is clean and for one person it is $45 a night. They give you a discount if you tell them you are visiting an inmate. They have fridge and microwave in the rooms. There is a grocery store right next door. And yes I did see a sign for the hospital but I can not answer any questions about that.
I hope this helps you. If you have any further questions let me know.

Victoria,
Thanks for the info on the motel...that makes me feel so much better...to know that we can make arrangements to stay somewhere safe, clean, and resonable.
My son is a level 2, but it appears he is on a level 4 yard right now because they sent him there under emergency conditions when the riot happened at Tracy and that was the only place they had any room. He was supposed to go to fire Camp. So really, we don't know what is going on right now, except that he said the CO's apologized profusely for having to put these level 1 and level 2 guys on a level 4 yard and told them they would move them as soon as there was space somewhere.
Well, at least I know where to stay if he doesn't get sent somewhere else, huh?
Thank you!

Ms. Clever,
Yep, I'll let you know.
And tax dollars at rest is right! Geez....
And yes, he did take his belongings with him. All the guys did. He said there are about 12 level one and two guys on the level 4 yard with him, but that they shipped a whole lot more over there with them than the 12 or so on that yard. He doesn't know where those other guys are or what level they were.
I just looked at the CDC site (or maybe it was CDCINFO) and it appears that unless you are at SATF, it's all a level 4! Hmmmm....I wonder if that means no fire camp and SATF instead...whenever they have room. But that would be weird as he has no substance abuse charges or anything.
Oh, who knows....hopefully I'll get some answers tomorrow.
Hey, at least he can make phone calls like crazy for the first time in 4 months! His wife is in heaven!!! And this Mom is pretty happy to hear his voice too! I'm sure I'll love it when the phone bills get here! LOL
As always, thanks for your support and your level head!

Ok Ms. Clever, as promised, here is what I was told.
Yep, he is a level 2 and on a level 4 yard...C yard.
They are going to transfer him to the SATF when they have room....so no fire camp, I guess.
Because he is on a level 4 yard, and they "have to insure the movement of prisoners" (get the level 4 guys off the yard so these level 2 guys can go to visiting is what they explained that as) his visiting is only from 12:30-3 on Saturdays, but at least it is a contact visit. When he gets over to the SATF then it will be from 8-3 on Friday and Saturday.
They must have reassured me a half dozen times that he was separated from the level 4 inmates (even though I never asked). That kinds of gives you the creeps, you know? What is that old saying, "Thou doth protest too much" ? Hmm...
Tonight on the phone, when I told my son what they said, he just plain said, "Wrong! I'm here with the level 4 guys...we are on the yard at the same time." I kept asking are you sure, till I made him nutts. He is totally convinced that he is not separated from them. What do you make of this? Who can I contact to be sure? And should I?
