Default Filing taxes while in prison

Hey guys I didn't really know where to put this. Sorry if it's in the wrong category.

I have a nephew in jail right now and he's going to be in there till the deadline for taxes to be filed. How does he go about filing them? Even if his parents do it for him there is no way for them to get the money he's getting back because they either mail a check (which obviously he can't cash) or have it direct deposited but his parents don't have access to his bank account. Will he get in to trouble for not filing his taxes? Do they cut him some kind of break for being in jail? They want to get the money he's getting back to put in his account to buy necessities in jail. Any insight would be great.

If i am not mistaken if he gives his parent power of attorney while he is away they will be able to handle all of this for him

Do they need to contact a lawyer to give them power of attorney?

He can also get the form in the law library as my husband did when i moved and he had to change the address on the power of attorney form. The prison will notarize it as well

Plus if he's getting out shortly, if he's getting a refund, he has three years to file the return before he's unable to get the money, so he could just wait.

I purchased my Power of Attorney form online for $15 at www.lawdepot.com . You can type in the info you want and print it out and mail it to him. Tell him to schedule an appointment with the notary at the prison. I think my honey bunny paid like $5. MAKE SURE YOU SEND HIM MORE THAN 1 COPY TO BE NOTARIZED because the IRS may want to keep the original...or you might need it again. If there is no space available about taxes, then type it in. But this was VERY VERY EASY!!!!!!!
