FLDOC - What You Need to KnowInformation relating to the Florida Department of Corrections. Q&A for those new to the FLDOC system should be posted here.
Since you had some specific visitation questions for Florida, I have moved this thread to the Florida forum on PTO so your post will have the opportunity to get more specific responses and the best answers to your questions, and won’t get lost in the busy Visitation forum... I’ve found they often get more and better answers there, AND the information will be here to help others in the future, too.
You also might want to thumb thru the Florida forum to see if some of your questions have already been answered in the past... the direct link to the forum is here:
I honestly wish I had an answer for you but I do not. My only suggestion would be to call the DOC headquarters and inquire anonimously. Either that or contact your union rep and ask them as if you were inquiring out of curiosity. I would assume that they may consider it a security risk.

From what I understand - you can only work as a corrections officer AND visit if the individual is an immediate family member and then it requires the approval of the Secretary of the DOC. If your visitor is merely a friend etc - I don't believe Florida permits the job and the visitation.

I think I read some where on the DOC page under the Title 33 rules some thing about CO's and visitation. Try looking under personal section. Maybe that would help before you call them. I glanced through because I quit my job at a county jail before my husbands trial. It might help anyway.
Just found your post, so I know you probably already know the answer to your question. However, just in case you don't, I know that if you met your friend while you were employed with the doc, they will NEVER allow you to visit. They will tell you it is a "security risk" and most probably accuse you of other things. As you should know, they use "security" as an excuse when nothing else is available to them. I'm very sorry for you & your friend, but unless you can find a way around their knowing you work for them (unlikely), then you won't be allowed to visit.
I am just curious...you first started this thread about 7 months ago.... I am just curious to see what ever happened to Patrick? Are you two still seeing each other and if not are you at least writing still? I only ask because you seem to have been so deeply in love with him and i was just wondering if its still the smae or if you came to realize it wasnt what you thought?
well since that post i met a guy named Mike and fell head over heels, we lived together for roughly 7 months and he proposed. It was like being on cloud 9. when Mike proposed i cut off all communication with Patrick out of respect for Mike. Then the day after Valentines Day Mike told me he wasnt coming home and that it was over. It took me a few days but i wrote to Patrick again explaining why i cut off the communication, cause honestly I felt like such a bitch. Well now Mike and I are talking again (thank god) and I am waiting on a letter from Patrick. He'll be released on 8/8 of this year and Ill be there to pick him up, not as a relationship but as a friend cause thats something that wont die out.
