I work with a woman whose husband is an inmate at Southern State Correctional Facility. In the next week or so, I am planning on sending him a Christmas card. I was wondering if I could also include a money order along with the card so that he could buy things from the commissary. Is this permissible and, if so, to whom do I make the money order payable? (e.g., to the inmate himself or to the NJ DOC?)
I'm sure someone for NJ will tell you exactly how, but I know you can just call the facility and ask....and here in GA all you have to do is make the money order out to the inmate...you will need is ID number and put that on the money order...but either wait for other replies from NJ or just call the facility directly. I think that is so nice of you to do that for your friend.
That is just wonderful of you! You can send the money order, just ask your co-worker for his SBI#, and be sure to write it on the money. Address it to him just like cdmack said, but he won't physically get the money order in hand, as they will place it in his account, but you can make a copy of it a make a note of it in your card, that's what I usually do for my son on his birthday and christmas. Oh and I also cut it out and slip it inside the card like you would cash!
