Default penpal moved to pelican bay

I wrote a young man because he was having medical problems, and his mom was worried. He was in SHU. I'm pretty good at medical terminology and said I'd write him for her. He said he had a staph infection and wasn't getting good treatment. He said he had huge boils on his skin.
Anyhow, he just got transferred to pelican bay. I dont' know if he is in a medical unit or SHU. He did indicate in a quick note to let me know he was there, that he was getting better medical care and that it was "punctual".
I suppose he still must be in SHU there? How many men are in SHU there? how do they determine how long they will be there? He is in prison for manufacturing drugs. I think he said he is in SHU because he said he had to defend himself against someone who kept threatening hiim.
any info would be appreciated.

My husband is in the SHU and I'm not sure how many men are in there but you can check it out on the CDC website I think.
My husband has a severe problem with his left eye due to a childhood accident which has deteriorated with the lights in the SHU, for about a year now he has been visiting the doctor there with no such luck, recently a new doctor was employed there and got him a recommendation to see an outside specialist. The specialist told him he MUST have surgery or he will go blind. After more waiting he is now approved to have this surgery. That’s about all I can tell you about the medical situation at Pelican Bay SHU just a personal experience so to speak.

I hope your friend is in better health now!

I just got one quick note from him this week to tell me he had moved and was getting better care. I'll let you know when I hear from him next time.
