Default How long is average stay at Correctional Reception Center CRC?

My dad was sent to CRC for processing almost 6 weeks ago. How long do they usually stay there before they are classified and shipped to wherever they'll complete their sentence? He said he's seen people arrive and leave before him. Any ideas?

It depends. It can take months. I'm not sure how they decide how long someone will be there, but I've known of men being there for up to 3 months. Depending on the degree of the crime and what "parent institute" they are being classed to. Some institutions only come out once a month to transport inmates. They could be one reason, but there are so many loop holes in the system it's hard telling. This can be a trying time, so keep your head up and communication lines open. Good luck, my prayers are with you.

Depending upon the workload, he may have to wait. Also, if they want to send him to PCI and all beds are filled there, then he has to wait at CMC until a bed is available - which can take some time. I read an article that OH is planning to open more buildings to house their over crowded system, but I don't know just when that will happen.

Their Trip to CRC depends on a variety of factors, including their crime, type of offense (if it's a sex offense, they will to go SORT at Madison), their security level, and where they are assigned to go to their "parent" instituation.

When I was at CRC, I was there for a few months. I know of a few guys who (at the time) had been at CRC for over 2 years waiting for a bed to open. CRC is rough.

His was a sex offense - but he says he's seen people leave to go to Madison within a week of arriving and he's still there. It's like they've forgotten him

I've seen the SORT process take up to 8 weeks, then 4 weeks there, then back to CRC.

My son Jason was transferred to CRC Norco from PVSP. He was there maybe a month and than transferred to CIM reception, At CIM Jason waited months before he was finally transferred to Avenal. Because of the location I would have loved to see Jason serve the rest of this time at CRC. Some have been there for years. Hope this helps and that your father will be sent to a prison that is not to far away from you.

God Bless

They don't forget anyone.

One of the changes that they made to DOTS (Department Offender Tracking System, where all moves, bed changes, commissary funds, notes, etc) when I was there was added a SORT flag to the inmate's electronic record. If he's charged with an offense that requires SORT...they know about it, and they won't assign him to a parent institution until he goes through SORT.

Hope this helps;

BigE

My husband was at crc for 2 weeks his was also a SO. I think it depends how long ti takes for them to access him and then they go from there. HE went from CRC to Madison and now he's at Chillicothe. My husband hated Madison and Chilli isn't as bad.

He was transferred today to Madison - he'd been at CRC since the middle of June. Hope he does okay at Madison.
