Default Telecommunications Policy Info

I just got off the phone with Sacramento, a delightful woman from the CDCR's telecommunications branch was kind enough to be very prompt about returning the call I placed this morning....
Lately we've had a number of questions come up concerning PCO, forwarding calls from home to your cell, etc, so I went to the source to try to get some answers:

PCO, and similar services: Use of these services is NOT prohibited at the state level. MCI hates it, but that is not the problem of the CDCR. As long as this method is not used to circumvent the Department's security policies, the CDCR could care less.

It is important to note, however, that individual institutions DO have the authority to prohibit the practice. Any policy prohibiting use of a forwarding service must be in writing.

Forwarding calls from home to your own cell, again, is NOT a policy violation at the state level, they kind of hate it, but it is not something they are going to concern themselves with unless it begins to show itself as a source of significant trouble. again, State policy notwithstanding, the practice may be prohibited by individual facilities and it is the responsibility of the person recieving the calls to know the policy for the facility from which a call originates. The Public Information Officer or the Warden's Office can advise you of the policy for the facility from which you recieve calls.

Three way calls ARE PROHIBITED by CDCR policy, and they mean it. No institution has the authority to permit third party calls and there are no circumstances under which it is acceptable.

I hope that clears up some of the questions.

No sweat, Everyone, and you're all very welcome.
I figure that the more accurate information is available, the easier EVERYONE'S lives are... We don't need the stress of not knowing and,Love'em or hate 'em, most of the Correctional Officers are pulling at least two double shifts a week and they certainly have no desire to spend time dealing with pesky violations that were commited out of a sheer lack of knowing that something was not allowed....I'm sure that some folk here have begun to think I'm actually a COs ol' lady in drag, as often as I sympathize with their position, but the fact remains that they don't write the policy... they're just the spear carriers stuck enforcing the jumble created when the bureaucrats, politicians, union reps and bean counters finally put down their respective rulers.
Everyone wins when we're all on the same page.

Thank you. It is funny, I just had a young girl call and ask if the next time my husband called if I could 3 way and I said nope, no can do.. can't do it not breaking the rules.. And she was amazed that it is a violation. MCI doesn't say it but on AT&T they say 3 ways calls and something will result in termination of this call.
Glad to know I am good to go on the call forwarding though!
