I has asked an insurance friend of mine and they said buying life insurance.. for an inmate was not valid due to the "enviroment" and HIGH risk.. at least in the new england area... i am goin on you are talking about life insurance.. and not medical??

I know in Florida you cannot purchase life insurance on inmates because they are considered high risk. I just purchased insurance for myself a few weeks ago and tried to get some for my fiance. He said that they have to be released and off probation for a year before they can even apply.

I know for fact that you can not purchase life insurance in the state of texas for anyone who is in prison, no matter what the crime is.

I wonder if that was just that one company or all of them. I have not looked into this.

I had spoke with a representative that sells for 6 different insurance companies in Florida, and they were all the same. He said he doesn't believe I will find one...So I am going to do one of those prepay plans for my fiance, in case something were to ever happen.

I have been wondering about this as well. We always talk/joke about not wanting to be buried at Avenal State Cemetary! Please keep us all updated and I am going to look into the one that sent the forms directly to the institution for him to sign.

I just met with someone from NY life and he told me that they will not insure them

1. There is a question about your where about if you were ever arrested etc.....
2. He has to sign the papers and depending on the policy he has to have a physical. But I'm still looking cause hubby needs insurance. Will keep ya posted if I find anything.....

While there arent any questions , pretaining to his whereabouts , im sure it would be best you go about it the right way such as asking if he can have it while incarcerated because if you dont they can drop you as well.

Also, with insurance, every state has its own laws....
I agree with e wife it is best to be up front with all of it, because if not, you would be disappointed if you paid for nothing. Good luck!!!

I did meet someone who got life insurance on her spouse from her job and he died, she just sent them the death certificate that was from the county his prison was in the collect on the policy, he had a heart attack, so it wasn't like a violent death or anything that raised red flags, the death ceritficate she said didn't indicate he was in prison. I do want to look into the pre paid funeral/burial plan, has anyone else researched that?

So what do we do if a loved one dies in prison...My brother wants to be buried here in Maine with his parents, but he's in La Palma in Arizona?? I read that if you let the prison take care of things you can't have the remains to bury???

Those of you that are getting life insurance through your employers need to get your policy and read the exclusions. Being incarcerated is pretty much standard with all companies. Even if the employer allows you to add the person, if your spouse passes while he is incarcerated, they WILL NOT PAY. You will have spent all that premium for nothing.

The exclusions are in the policy even if they don't ask health questions.

Group insurance is generally Guarantee Issue which means they don't ask health questions but most of the policies read the same.
