Question Dose anyone else out there dealing with a herion addict?????

I love my Man to the end I have been dealing with his addiction... For all but 6 years... He has been saying that he is done every time he went in and out of county, threw 2 different rehabs... When he went on the run in sept. He started getting worse and worse and then I swiped 3 grams on to our carpet. He drew back like he was going to hit me but he didn't he turned around and then turned back at me called me a bitch and stormed past me we really didn't talk for like 2 days then he was doing something and I confronted him and said how it was drawing us apart and that we weren't going to make it if something didn't change... Well this all happened the night before thanksgiving well the next Wed. He asked me if i would go to the clinic with him that monday So that he could get on methadone... (I would rather see him drink from a bottle every day then put a needel in his arm...) I told him of course That I would support him in anyway possible... Well that monday we went to the clinic and by Wed. he was on methadone. Needless to say the police caught up with him on Jan. 13 05 and as we all know how hard it is to see our man bein taken away in handcuffs is one of the hardest things that we have done... Well his letters and his words seem so different then anyother time he has been away either in county or in rehab... What I would like to know is... Is there anyone out there that has been threw something similiar to this and is your man still clean in or out. How do we know if he means it this time????? I love my baby boi.....

I can only say to watch his behavior and actions, and they will tell you what you need to know.

There is a forum for drug and alcohol addiction.

You may want to try to go to Narc-Anon, and gain some helpful coping skills, and support.

I wish you all the best. There are many knowledgable people on this forum, and they will be along with help and advice.

Welcome to PTO!!

Welcome Niki-N-Keith to the Drug and Alcohol Rehab forums, and to PTO.
Heroin addiction is a tough addiction to break, yet it can be done. Remember, for any rehabiliatation to work, the addict must be ready to WANT to change for HIMSELF. From your post, I see that he went on the run and is now in prison? or county? Niki, you may want to attend some NarcAnon meetings in your area, for extra advice in dealing with this man you love and his addiction. You will be able to tell he is going to really try to change by his words and actions. If he is truly sick of being tied to this addiction he will make that fact perfectly clear to you... I know that you love him but you cannot allow him to continue to do this drug around you, that is called enabling behavior, and will not help him want to change. You may want to read through our co-dependency subforum as well for additional information on 'tough love' when dealing with an addict/alcoholic. I truly wish you the best in this, please us posted on his progress! Again, welcome to PTO. We are here for you!

Niki-n-Keith,

I've been dealing with this for over three years now. I can't tell you to believe, I can't tell you not to believe. But what I have learned from here and him is that you have to be the strongest, toughest SOB out there. For there is nothing that can stop a herione user/addict if they want it bad enough. They will sell you the sun for a suntan and you will be willing to pay anything for it.

Hang in there and trust your gut instincts!!!

Nikki-N-Keith:

Ive known my fiance for 15 years we only started dating in June05 but he is back in prison. He was addicted to heroin. when he got out in june he started using in july. Anyways like the moderator said. He has to want it for himself.. Just because we want them to get better that doesnt mean that they want it. You just have to be there listen and also let them know that it is not right what they are doing to themselves and the people that love them. I found comfort in the LORD. My finacee did to before he went to prison he gave himself to the lord. Yes even though things did not work out accordingly, he humbled himself and ask God to help him thru this. Now he is in prison but he is seeing a counselor and a drug counselor, he is still also meditating on the word of God. when he gets out he has alot of people from our church that are willing to help him keep on track. But the most improtant thing is that HE himself asked for help and asked GOD to come into his life and save him.

I will hope that this finds some comfort to you. Because I know what the struggle is to be with someone who is sick.

BEST WISHES AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU & ALL IF YOURS!!

Chula, I am glad HE wants to change!! One thing that will also help, is removing yourselves from all old 'acquaintances' / 'friends' and all old 'neighborhoods'- any of these can act as 'triggers' for the old ways to set right back in. I truly hope for your sake that he makes it!!! Hugs!!!
