I spoke with my brothers girlfriend today... She said she has been sending cards, but has not been putting a return address on them!! Has anyone had experiance with this? Do you think they are just not giving them to my brother. I realize that the policy is that mail must have a return address, My question is just has anyone sent letters with out one and did their love-one receive it?
Just curious. I explained to her from here on in she really needs to put a return address if she wants him to get the mail!
I really doubt that he would be getting the cards. There has to be return address on the envelope. If there is no return address the go in to a no return address pile, and are, I believed returned to the post office. I would stress to her the importance of puttin the return address on the envelope, as she is wasting money, if hes not receiving them
Frienz is right. CA prisons do not accept mail without a return address. It is for the safety and security of the prison. Someone could be trying to send escape info, death threats, etc. That's why this rule is in effect.
If that is the case and you don't have a return address on your envelope and they send it back to the post office and you know you have pics in there. Is there anyway to get those back or find out if the post office has it.
Also, if there is no return address on it will the prison mail workers even open it?
Yes they will open it. My bf says they will check it for drugs or other contraband and if it is there they will try to get the inmate to pick it up. Same with packages. He says he has seen people get busted this way for receiving illegal drugs.

Yep! Totally correct...
Also, I don't think they (the prison) will send the mail back to the post office. I'm pretty sure they just toss it (after opening it) if the mail does not have a return address.
Im not so sure they just toss it, maybe it depends on the prison. When Autsin was in CMC, I would mail him stuff, no return address, *me being sneaky me* and he got them just fine......
Well let's put it this way....if they catch the no return address and there is nothing illegal in the envelope, they toss it rather than return it to the post office as William'sBaby stated. They aren't about to waste their time. If something gets through, I would think it was luck and unobservant mail room employees.

Yeah, they (mailroom staff) are not supposed to allow mail with no return address to go through. And returning it to the post office would be a waste of time and money. Plus, they wouldn't know which post office to return it to.
I suggest that you put a return address on every envelope. If you are scared, then you really shouldn't be mailing anything in the first place. If listing your home address bothers you, get a P.O. box. They are usually pretty cheap (mine is $40 for one year) and then you wont have to worry about anyone "finding you". Of course William knows my home address, but he writes to me at my P.O. Box. That way I don't have to worry about other inmates finding out where I live, etc.
Oh hell, they all know where I live now. We got returned mail from CIM saying correspondence approval needed. I thought that only was from inmate to inmate. Now they say a parolee can't write to an inmate?? So guess who will be sending the stuff back to CIM? The things we do for the ones we love...
