Default Re: Resumes

If you take any past work experience, employment placings, training courses etc, break them down into the components of competancies; eg - A Baker would achieve competancies or be responsible for

preparing bread & pastries
operation of commerical cooking equip
ensuring safe food handling
maintaining a hygeinic & safe work environment
team building in the work environment

etc etc...

if you pull each job or course into little parts you can make even the dullest of jobs seem like a Five Star affair

Mrs. G.,

If you have Microsoft Word or any other similar type program on your PC, they come with a Resume Wizard. Monster.com is another online resource where you can post your resume, as someone mentioned in an earlier post.

To get around difficult lapses of time between jobs or to make several jobs that may not have lasted a long time each sound more impressive, you can say something like:

Ten years' experience in car detailing. Duties and skills required:

(List them here)

Five years continuous employment in automotive paint shop (which we can pretend he worked at in prison) including working in restorative body work with the following skills and responsibilities:

(List them here)

Educational certificates and diplomas:

(List them here) and you would include any kind of certification gotten in prison as well as in the free world but not saying it was gotten in prison if it's not necessary.

Then at the end, you make the statement "References available upon request" and you would then level with the person about having been in prison and other relevant facts once the resume' has generated an actual interview so that the "references" are in that way actually requested. You won't have them blatantly out there in the resume' and only the facts relevant to what is most impressive to the potential employer will be in front of him or her. This isn't deceptive, because you no doubt may have also turned in a job application with the statement you were convicted of a felony and you won't try to hide it at an interview, but it's a psychological ploy you can use to your advantage in presenting your qualifications very strongly all in one place without the negative words in black and white that you've been in prison being right there as well.

In making a resume' of this kind, you're stressing your many years of experience and ability, which is very valuable in the job market, while kind of smoothing out gaps in employment or the fact that you've had quite a few jobs but didn't stay with any one a long time.

another option to fill the gaps would be to note it as Xyr - Zyr Family Duties or Person Developement and again list the skills attained throughout this period.

Go to the websites that were listed above on resumes, and follow that format. That's how I did my resume. For the time that I was incarcerated, I listed those jobs on resume as exactly what they were. If you worked in the (ex.) Medical Unit. then list prison name medical unit. job descriptions were..... There was a great period of time prior to prison that I did'nt work. I listed my organization as
Domesic Engineer Alliance. (1990-1999) Job Description: various household duties, as well as being a positive parent, role model and leader within the community. You can come up with what ever you want to fit your own resume. It looks good on my resume.
