Hello to all at PTO! I just spoked with my boyfriend John who is currently serving time at Gowanda corr. facility. It has been 12 days since he received a letter from me! I write him every day and i've been sending letter's every day also. I sent him a big envelope last monday (july14) and he still hasn't gotten yet!!!!!! As you all know how important these letter's are to our loved ones. This is all they look forward to each and every day! Has anyone expereince the same problem with mail? (particulary Gowanda prison). I think the co's read all letter's and pick and chose the ones they will give to that person. That's f*** up!!!!!!!!!! I'm just pissed of right now! Thanks
Have you tried calling the jail and politely explaining the situation and asking if others are also going through the same thing? That way they will not say you are accusing anyone of withholding mail.

My husband is at Auburn and once in awhile, he's had a problem receiving his mail from me that he'd normally get the next day. Last fall, we noticed that it took 12 days for me to receive letters from him and he'd receive letters 7 days later from the time I mailed them to him. In our case this delivery turn-around isn't normal but it went on for about 2-3 weeks then suddently it stopped, so for some reason it seems to go in "streaks." We are going through it again now for whatever reason (God only knows!). DOCS does monitor mail and will open incoming mail because they are looking for contraband, money and legal documents and they open mail when they suspect something out of the ordinary, probably based upon an anonymous tip or because of a request by local authorities.
I can't speak for Gowanda and the package room sargeant there but given that there was a recent lockdown at Auburn, it's possible mail will be monitored until things "settle down" more. I can also tell you that the sargeant in the package room at at Auburn isn't much help either - he tells you one thing but does another and I speak from experience!
Sorry, wish I could have been of more help. I hope your loved one soon receives his mail in a more timely manner. Take care!
i'm going throught the same situation with my g/f. She is at lakeview. And isnt recieving any of my mail that i send to her. Since she can only call every other week. I get mail from her saying things like i just dont care anymore. It is very frustrating, that i cant tell her that i am sending mail. I understand that the c.os have to check the incoming mail. and that they think that prisoners are nothing. But What the F**k...it isnt fair. They stress the importance of loved ones and coming to visit and write has much mail..and then they dont even give them their mail. Its the second week of "Knucklehead", where they just try to beat them down. But keeping their mail from them is just wrong!!
