ADD on Charge???

HELP BF was taken to childrens court today, from jail. We didnt even know he had a court date. They said it was a dependency court?????? BF says no one would talk to him and his Public defender said something about maybe an ADD ON CHARGE......but probly not. What the heck is an add on charge? BF seems to think they can try to charge him again even though he has already been sentenced to a year. Public defender said they would bring him back JULY 15, when this court gets the criminal courts paperwork and reports. I dont understand....there isnt anything to charge him with , unless its the same charge or someone is lying....can they hit him with a new charge for the same case, or create a new case based on the same incident??? I am so freaked out, and now he is too and waiting until july 15 to find out what the heck is going on-- is going to be unbearable. BF doesnt remember the Public defenders name so I cant even try to talk to him!!!!! Any info on this type of situation anyone????????

that sounds kinda weird...there was no new proof or something regarding the case they sentenced him for?

Yes they can give him a new beef if they feel there was something he did that they found out about later, that he was not charged with earlier. They can't technically charge him with the same crime twice because of double jeapordy, or a conviction he's already had.

My understanding is that BF daughter is not happy that he got a year, foster mom told her (and me) that isnt nearly enough time, so it is very possible that the daughter will try to come up with something new to say. I hope not, but thats could be it. Annie
