California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility, Corcoran (SATF)Topic and discussion specific to CSATF- Substance Abuse Treatment Facility located at Corcoran State Prison in California.
The package program has been modified as follows: Families will be allowed to make purchases once the inmate is approved for a package and mails the approved list to the family member. The family then can mail directly to the vendor for delivery. This prevents the taking of the restitution money that would go to THE COURT, not the DEPT of Corrections, as many folks believe. We just COLLECT the money and it is never counted toward departmental monies.
For what it is worth: in my opinion...this package baloney is the end of the line for me!!!
Mr. Hurdle: I, and everyone involved appreciates all that you do for us. However, it appears to me that over a period of time, more and more restrictions are being placed on those of us who try to do for our loved ones.
The irritating and frustrating issues are numerous. First of all, we s/o's, wives, family members are treated as if we, too, have lost our rights and were convicted of the crimes of our loved ones. What most of society and ALL of CDC sees is that the inmate or prisoner is bad, when in fact, the crime was bad, not the person, hence anyone who has a relationship or compassion with these inmates (dear God, I hate that word) is also a criminal or why else would we even be here??? Mercy, if we were all treated as CDC treats people, none of the human race would stand a chance, and ONLY CDC would have perfect people!
The second, and probably most important to me issue is this: Employees of CDC accept whatever baloney rules and regs that come from above. This is beaucratic thinking and being an employee of a government entity forever, tends to make these 'entities' accept directives, etc that are put before them, without question and just because!!! e.g....where is the 'law' of these packages, where is the 'law' of internet mail, etc, etc....
I have owned a business(s) in the private sector my entire adult life. I never accepted the 'controlled atmosphere' of an organization simply to give me a pay check every week. I do not and would not accept rules and regs simply because it has been written many times over...and moreover, even as an employee, I don't feel that anyone should accept the 'just because' attitude. When I am told by anyone: "This is our policy"...well b.s....that is NOT my policy and as long as I am legal, then get out of my way. Here is MY policy".
I thank Mr. Kurdle and Mr. Uribe for any and all help they put forth. But it isn't enough.
Since these package restrictions are NOT law...and interpreted differently in each prison...suppose we simply ignore them and just continue with what we have done in the past. Let's inundate all prisons with packages as before; let's SHOW them that we will continue to do as we have until they (CCPOA) go to court and allow us due process. Remember, this is OUR money, not the inmate's.
Will they return packages...perhaps...but ALL of them? And at who's expense if an inmate has no money on the books? Will they destroy? Fine...insure the packages...make UPS or FED EX or USPS pay for our packages....make CDC answer to them in numbers....File small claims against CDC for destruction...but always disclose to them upon delivery that this package WILL be delivered or there will be consequences to pay.
We need to tell them that this is our way as free citizens to send and do as we please, of course in all legality...what they do upon receipt is certainly their business...but they are messing with the US mail and we need to let them know....AND FOLLOW THROUGH with the consequences...
We initiate at our given post office...therefore we sue CDC in every city and county in California that we can.
I don't give a damn about their administrative policies...I am, and none of us are subject to these policies....
My feelings....and shame on any government employee who accepts restraints from any form of government that violates the constitution....
Mr. Hurdle and Mr. Uribe....the restrictions and rules you feel subject to are a definite violation of government rights of all of us...
WE have lost our rights simply because we care for an individual who is incarcerated....ok...that is the inmate's battle, not mine.
Just to show an example...I have had to write to the warden and to Mr. Uribe 3 times in the last month regarding issues at Tracy.
I am still getting excuses and "I'll get back to you".
I will reiterate my feeling: EVERY STATE EMPLOYEE THAT I HAVE DEALT WITH WOULD BE FIRED IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR. Perhaps this is yet another reason why the private business' in CA are flourishing and the state government is in chaos.
"If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem"
I am going to continue all that I have done in the past; I REFUSE to support vendors! If they send my package back, I will sue....the warden, the associate warden, the mail room Lt. and EVERONE who touched that package....and I have the money and time to do it! If I am talking out of my neck, tell me so. But I believe that entertaining their regs will only encourage more abuse.
Suppose all mail, in any form, stopped. Would CDC lay off employees and then there would be more money in the state coffers to pay the budget? Hey, there's an idea....no mail for 2 months....no phone calls accepted for 2 months...let's hit em!
Mu old man is in the SHU at Corcoran. He just shot me that notice dated July 3 regarding the special package purchases. I had been lagging on getting him his TV but because of that notice I sent it last Monday. if I understand correctly the notice reads that inmates will have to purchase ther own special packages directly from the vendors as of August 1. Family and friends will now need to send the money to the inmate, the inmate will order directly from the vendor, but the inmate will be charged the price of the item plus 22%, if they owe any restitution. The notice is signed by V Rangel R&R sergeant and TI Gonzalez, Custody captain.
