Hi there........my boyfriend needs tennis shoes, sweats, thermals....also a mustache trimmer and wants headphones or something he can listen to music with.....
My question is........can I order these things in a separate package - or will it count as a Quarterly package. These things will tend to weigh alot - so there doesn't seem like there would be much room (or weight) left for the food and essentials he will also need for this quarter......
Can I do both in this quarter - or does it have to be in one Quarterly package. I think I'm not clear on the whole "Special" & "Quarterly" package requirements....
Any help would be greatly appreciated......thanks!!

Quarterly Packages:
The California Inmate Quarterly Package system allows you to send much-desired items to your incarcerated loved one. Each institution sets it’s own rules as to what items are allowed and prohibited and items vary by privilege groups. As a result, vendors therefore provide services to a limited amount of Facilities, Camps, CCF’s or the LA County Jail System. All Quarterly Packages are limited to a maximum weight of 30 Lbs. Nor can they exceed dimensions of 24” x 24” x 24”. All vendors list those institutions for which they provide goods and services and what privilege groups.
Special Packages:
Special Packages allow for the purchase of Electronics, Accessories, Musical Instruments, Under Garments and Clothing, Correspondence Courses, Legal Material and Faith Based Items. That would otherwise crowd a quarterly package beyond its allowed weight or dimensions. There is no limit to the amount of special packages allowed in a calendar year.
According to this info, clothing can be sent as a special package. BUT this depends on the prison. I know that headphones and a CD player CAN be sent special, I have personally done this myself. The best thing for you to do is call the R&R department at the prison and ask someone there. Sometimes you need prior auth. to send these types of things, and all prisons are different.

Thanks, Laura........I did call the R&R department @ Avenal but the guy who answered said he thought everything had to be sent in the Quarterly package...<sigh> so I've posted the question to the Avenal group and maybe I'll call again at a different time to see if I can get more information.....The two paragraphs you listed - did they come from Title 15?
Thanks, as always for your help.......
