When Junior and I decided to get married, it was a long drawn out process. From the time he sent me the standard prison application for marriage, to the time we said "I do" was about 6 months. In between was getting the marrige license, buying the rings, hiring the chaplin for $100, (AZ prison chaplins do not perform marriage ceremonies) Then waiting for the DOC to tell ME what MY anniversary will be for the rest of my life. Ironically it is Feb 14th.
My husband had to wear his state issued flourescent orange. I was not allowed to bring any witnesses. The CO's on duty were our witnesses. No pictures are allowed at Lewis Prison in Buckeye, AZ. (at all) So I couldn't bring a camera. But that's ok because I have it recorded in my memory. I got to spend about 45 supervised minutes with him then I went home.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I have often wondered how prison weddings took place. By the way, my anniversary is February 16th. At least you got it right - Valentine's Day!

Liz, I wish to say thanks for sharing that with us. I know you probably hadn't pictured that to be your dream wedding but as long as you're with the person you love who needs a big wedding? I probably need to follow my own advice instead of caring about what other people say. Thanks again.
LIZBETH- WHAT'S RECORDED IN YOUR MEMORY IS MUCH LONGER LASTING THAN A PHOTOGRAPH. AND I AM SURE THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR PHOTOS LATER ANYWAY- CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR MARRIAGE!

Oh I can relate! We couldn't have any pictures taken either. What would having a picture taken hurt? And I know what you mean about the DOC deciding what your anniversay date will be forever. Ours is December 21; they only did weddings on Thrusday mornings where he was. Well at least we didn't have to hire a chaplain! That sucks!
