More questions (re: VSPW)

I have decided to write to someone in VSPC and have many questions.

Will she need self addressed stamped envelopes?

Are phone calls allowed and how are they arranged?

Generally what should I expect?

Where can I learn more about the facility and how it operates?

I'm in NY and have little knowledge of CA., let alone the facility and the area that it is in.

Since I know absolutely nothing, any information is good information.

I was trying to research VSPC. All I could find was: Valley State Prison for Women (VSPW). Is this where she is? Chowchilla, CA 93610-0099 (559) 665-6100
If this is it, call and ask for the mail room. Ask for their information regarding mailing anything in. Ask how to properly address the envelope.
If this isn't the place, try finding it by going to google.com. Put in the full name of the facility and city, California. Good Luck. -C

She may need envelopes to write you back, but self-addressed is not necessary. Maybe since this is your first time writing you can ask her and send a few self stamped envelopes just in case!

Are phone calls allowed and how are they arranged?
If it’s anything like the Men’s Prisons they are allowed Phone Calls if they have a job and what not. This is to be determined by the prison how they are allowed to sign up for them.

Generally what should I expect?
Expect as far as what? Response? Well if you found her on a Pen Pal site, I am sure she will be more than happy to oblige and write you back. But if you mean the mail process? Then your letter should reach her within about a week and you will probably receive a response within about 3-4 days of her mailing it back.

The facility is located in Chowchilla CA, which is kind of a rural area. I have visited this prison before as a child visiting my mother. I think the link above will offer you a lot of help.
