I helped Monty and his now wife get the ball rolling for there wedding. It is not traditional by any means. You have to get married by proxy and it done by a stand in. The groom has to fill out an affidavid stating they wish to marry you.

Then you take the affidavid and his birth certificate or id along with your to the courthouse. Then you pay $36 and get your license. You can use it in 72 hours and it has to be used within 30 days or it is void. Any jp or minister can marry you.. You just have to have the person you man designates as his stand in at the ceromony. it is very simply just a lonly type of wedding.

I had heard you mention getting married by proxy, but didn't know what it meant. I am glad you explained it.

Shortie - if ever I am in trouble, I want you one my side!

shortie, i married my husband by proxy in jan. and my girlfriend maryjane stood in for my husband. here if your spouse has been in prison for over 2 years their id has been deleted from the dps office and they dont let you use their prison id. they dont want copies made. they have to give a sworn statement, they can get a copy from the law libary at the unit.and fill the statement out and take it to the courthouse. each unit is diffirent and so is each state. if anybody has questions the best way is to first call the prison then call your county courthouse and ask for the information and be sure to tell them what the prison well only use.

Virginia is usually strict but I would think Texas is more strict??? Maybe it's the same.

Shorty

I thought I had it bad here in Arizona but it sounds like Texas takes the cake.

yeah texas is hard. marriage by proxy is very hard and it is just sad to know that you do not even get to see your spouse when you get married.. to make matters worse i did not even get a contact visit until we had been married for like 5 months so it was even more intense then a normal visit it sealed out marriage.. i have learned to be greatful for the little things in life.

SHORTIE, WHY ARE YOU HAVING TO WAIT TO SEE YOUR HUSBAND BY CONTACT VISIT, UNLESS YOUR HUSBAND IS IN PC OR SEG. IF IN FACT HE IS HERE IN TX YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE HIM WHEN IN 2 WEEKS. THIS IS HOW LONG IT TAKES FOR THE CHANGE. HE HAS TO BE CASE FREE AND BE IN GP. I SPEAK WITH MY HUSBANDS UNIT 1 A MONTH. WE WERE MARRIED ON JAN 14TH AND BY THE 29TH WE COULD HOLD EACH OTHER. YOU MAY WANT TO CALL AND DEMAND TO KNOW WHY.

Shortie,
I would check into that visitation thing as well. I saw my husband within 1 week because I brought the marriage license and presented it to the warden along with his rule book. I have helped alot of women in Texas with "rules and rights" and have a friend who is a x-guard. It's amazing how much you learn in all these years. WOW!
