Calling up the visiting dept

Hey all,

Just to let you know Barbara and anyone else, I was going to call up Pelican Bay about being able to visit for am and pm times at the SHU as I live so far away, and I was going to post the fax number for anyone that needs it but the lady I spoke to told me it had to be sent in a letter, so what with overseas mail the chance of me getting approved for that doesn’t look to good!

So just to let you know I didn’t get the fax number.

The other thing is when I visited in January I called on the Sunday before I flew out, they booked me in as I was flying all day on the Monday for the following weekend, problem is when I phoned this time round the lady was adamant I could call on the Tuesday when I had landed, but last time the guy I spoke to said the places for visiting get booked up so quick and calling later than a Monday I may not get in, has anyone ever done it later before?

Hi Joanna, I have called later and I always got in. It is really more important if you are going on a holiday weekend. You have plenty of time to send a letter just get it in the mail today and even if you don't get an answer back you just tell them you got approved when you call to make the appointment. You have to request the extra visit at the time you make the appointment anyway. Even if they write back and tell you that you are approved for the extra visit if they are over booked they won't give it to you, but that is not very likely so don't worry. I am going up in July for two week end I will ask them if I can call in for you in August LOL I just thought of that. I will be going up for the 12th 13th 19th & 20th. Love Barbara

How far in advance should we call to visit in mid August? he isn't in the SHU,he's level 2 so are the rules different? I'm bad with all of this stuff! I will have his Mom call and inquire,we haven't been approved as of yet anyways,it's only been two weeks since we sent in our visiting forms.

Thats so sweet thank you so much, well I land in San Fran on the Monday before about 3.30pm so I could try and call at the airport maybe.
I cant believe I missing you Barabara by less than 2 weeks, I land on 28th July and visit on the 1st weekend of August!

Imarie, Im not sure about level 2 visits, on the recording it says you dont need to book unless their in the SHU but I would check that anyway. In the Shu you can call to book from the Mon-Fri for that weekend.

Regarding Level 2 visits...not the problem it is with the SHU. You don't have to sign up in advance - just show up. I've never seen a full - or even half full - visiting room for the non-SHU guys. It's so far up there that not a lot of people can make the trip very often. A lot of the guys never have visitors.

And Joanna - what is the plan for you after you land in San Francisco? I live here, and if I can help get you from one place to another (or whatever) let me know.
