ILLINOIS:
A man who was pardoned from death row by former governor George Ryan filed
a 30 million dollar lawsuit against the city of Chicago Thursday.
Aaron Patterson is suing former police commander Jon Burge and several
other Chicago police officers in compensatory damages and punitive
damages.
Patterson claims he was tortured into falsely confessing in 1986 to a
murder after police threatened him with a gun. He said they beat him and
tried to suffocate him.
Patterson was 1 of 4 death row inmates pardoned by Ryan shortly before he
left the governors office in January.
I'm a prison activist in Chicago. My organization is named D.E.N.I.S., Inc. which stands for Defenders, Equalizers & Negotiators for the Institututionalized Society.
If you know Mr. Patterson, please ask him if he's heard of the organization and if he is in possession of one of my newsletters. If so, please ask him to contact me.
Inmate helper I do not personally know him. But if you are interested you might be able to contact the week-tv news which who wrote the article and they maybe able to help you.
The general opinion is he'll certainly win and maybe there's a lot more he can sue for as well.
Let's hope Aaron gets it as he's said he'll use the money to help free other guys who were on the Row and who he knows are innocent. Like my fiance!!!
