Hello!

Is he in reception or General Population there? If he is in reception, no packages for 6 months, but he will probably be moved shortly. As for visiting, usually 9AM to 3PM every day of the week. Weekends are always busier than the week days.

I would suggest calling the facility and asking to speak with a counselor. You can get specifics on everything.

Good luck and let us know what you find out and how your brother is!

Mimi, I have a question too... are you limited to the amount of days that you can visit and inmate with in a week?

It depends on the status of the inmate and the level of the facility they are in. Maximum's are usually 7 days a week, with some of the larger ones splitting the alaphbet on the weekends. Mediums are usually only on weekend and holidays, generally no limits. If an inmate is Keeplock it should not effect visits at all. If an inmate is in SHU they are only allowed 1 visit in a 7 day period. Depending where he is in SHU the visits may only be 1 specific day during a very limited time.

Many of the medium facilities now have a SHU attached to them, as they can not have SHU visiting with the mediunm status inmates SHU visits are typically Saturday nights from 5 to 9 or 5:30 to 9:30.

Hope that clarifies a bit.

Right after I changed forums I thought that depending on the facility where someone is at reception and the status in reception could affect the number of visits allowed. There is no hard and fast rule to this that I know, it may depend on the facility. I know at Elmira inmates in reception could have visits 7 days a week. I know when my stepson was at Downstate reception it was limited, but I do not recall why. It may have been his status.

Thanks for the info Mimi! So I guess to sum it up it is at the disgression of the facility then.

I think that when it comes to NYS DOCS digression of the facility is always the last line of every policy to cover them when they just want to do whatever it is that they please.

With Reception I am not as versed I will see if I can find more information and I will share it if I do.

each facility is different, so it is best to call and request a package list.

I checked out the item list that was posted, but didn't see any deodorant listed. Can anybody give me any info on whether an inmate can receive deodorant?

Good question. I really dont know. I have had all kinds of thngs returned to me. Perhaps seeing things that i can only find in glass containers to be avl in metal or plastic ones. In the beginning i didn't know about bringing in glass containers, and that was pigs feet, and olives, i am sure there were more items just cant remember right now off the muscle. But i've had things returned to me from food to footwear to clothes!! and it is very fustrating .

I'll be sure to tell my friend. She is a wreck and has probably called the facility every day since he has been there. Every CO gives her a different answer. This poor guy says there is no AC and every body is getting a little funky smellin. Thanks for the quick response. I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes by.
