Default Harris County Jail - Texas

Does anyone know if one has been sentenced to go to prison but is still in Harris County Jail. Does his time spent there count? what about work credit and other programs he gets involved in. does it count for him? Him is my son. Has been in County going on 4 months and is now working as a trusteee. I don't know how all this works. Thanks, Jeannie

Yes his county jail time counts. Depending on what his charge is will depend on how his work time and other time counts. Agg cases will do 50 to 85% before becoming eligible for parole. With agg cases work and good time only counts for parole elibiblity. No time is taken off their sentence for that. Non agg will serve 1/4 of their time before becoming eligible for parole. Depending on what he was sentenced to will make a difference also, state jail or prison. Hope that helps you understand about all that. With all the units over full he could be in the county for a while. Enjoy visiting him while you can because they can send him any where in the state once he does hit TDCJ. Good Luck!

txsfemhstn, thank you for the information. Best news Ive heard yet. I am thinking of signing him up to get his BA by mail and have it sent to County so that I can start the parole process. He is in for agg. I do enjoy our visits and yet my heart still breaks that I am not allowed to touch him and wish he was home. Thank you! Jeannie
