Default California Dept. of Corrections - Inmate Locator (Still in the Stone Ages)

(updated 07/06/2006)

Sorry to say California is still in the dark ages as far as an inmate locator within the DOC website... but here's what they have to offer at present:

California Department of Corrections - Inmate Location Information

http://www.theinmatelocator.com/California.html

To locate an inmate within the California Department of Corrections, please call (916) 445-6713, which is available 24 hours a day. You must have either the inmate's CDC number, or the inmate's full name and date of birth to receive information. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will provide an inmate's location, mailing addresses and relevant phone numbers. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will not provide any future release date information. Please note that for new or transferring inmates it can take up to seven business days to update location information.

Also, in Los Angeles County, if you wanna find out if someone has recently been arrested (usually keeps track of about three months worth of people) Then you can use this link, to try to get a CDC number or any other info on an inmate. I know this wont be helpful to many of you, but depending on how recent your ordeal is--well, you understand what I'm saying. Anyways, here it is...

Los Angeles County Sheriff's Dept. - Inmate Information Center

Thanks Helen... we've got the L.A. County Jail locator in another thread here but since it is the largest in the state we'll keep it attached here as well... (I'm just gonna edit the URL in your post a little)... thanks again!

I don't really know what you can do other than what's posted on the DOC site... maybe someone who is familiar with the California DOC has some other ideas...

thats really very sad. i mean the least they can offer us is the ability to search the DOC online..instead of being forced to call that stupid #. which i will be doing in a few weeks once dude starts intake. this state is not only poor, but quite sad. lol

I must admit I have always kind of found it strange that California's DOC website is still in the dark ages and doesn't have online location, I mean one would immediately assume that CA & NY (which does) would have the most high-tech stuff available. The rest of their website is pretty good and pretty informative, but I'm still scratching my head over why some place as backwards (and it is) as Alabama has that technology and California doesn't! Oh well...

That is pretty sad about California. I live in California and my husband of course is California as well and I cannot look him up on the internet. I was able when he was still in county but not in prison. Pretty odd because California is pretty up to date on everything but I guess not in the prison system.

Yep, I have always found that kind of odd myself. And Texas too - one of our largest and most populated states - same thing... It's always seemed funny to me RE: both of them....

I couldn't get DSL for a few years and I live in the city where computers were invented...Course I knew people in friggin IOWA that had DSL :lol

Anyways, yeah, its sad, but the way I see it, the prison INDUSTRY is there to destroy families - god forbid we have access to find out information about our loved ones!!!

Post Help

I don't know the exact day of the birthday, only the month and year, so the CDCR wont tell me his location and I have no idea what his number is. Any other suggestions, perhaps? Thank you!

i tried doing the same thing with my cousin but his name is soo common it gave me like 5 diff. names so i guess it doesnt work if its a common name
