Any information of when, why and what they do on lock downs will help other members be aware of what is going on.

So welcome everyone! Post away and lets help one another keep on top of what is going on.

My man wrote to me on Monday the 16th and said they are on lockdown for 3 weeks this is at Garza East in Beeville Texas ... They are not allowed to get out of their bunks only to go to the bathroom and they can shower every other day ... he said they are eating peanut butter sandwiches ... He didn't say why they were on lockdown ... well now that i remember i believe they caught some guys with cell phones ...

USA Today story yesterday:

Texas manages the nation's second-largest state system, holding 154,000 offenders. Authorities canceled visitation at all 112 facilities over the weekend and will consider closing to visitors next weekend.
Although there were no confirmed cases, Texas spokesman Jason Clark said 29 inmates are being quarantined for at least a week because they exhibit symptoms of the virus.
Clark said all new arrivals are being isolated for 72 hours.

I can't post the link because I'm new, sorry. Google "swine flu Texas prisons" if you want to read the whole thing.

Spark, TDCJ stands for Texas Department of Criminal Justice. It used to be just TDC, standing for Texas Department of Corrections, but I guess since their goal really had nothing to do with corrections and more to do with punishment, they are just going with, "Criminal Justice," these days. I dunno...
LOCK DOWNS, RACKING UP - About 5 times a day for, "count-time," guards will either come in to the dorm or yell on a loud speaker, "Count-Time, Count-Time, Rack it up for count time!" Or, something similar. This means that all offenders must get on their bunks until the Correctional Officers can count everyone in the dorms they are supervising. Once count has been done for the entire Unit and all numbers add up to the number of inmates that are on the Unit's roster the offenders may get off their bunks, shower and go to work. Many times there are errors in count and it has to be redone. Count time usually last 15-20 mins, depending on the intelligence the C.O.s working at that time have. No one is allowed off their bunk except to use the restroom.
A Unit Lock-Down is issued once every six months. This is where the entire Unit has to, "Rack Up," for days until all bunks and cell areas are thoroughly searched. They strip search each inmate and escort them one or two dorms at a time on to the Rec. yard or in a Sally Port to wait for their stuff to be sloppily rummaged through and thrown everywhere. As soon as there has been a Unit Lock Down issued they turn off all the water. You can imagine the nastiness of the restrooms after 3 days of no water!!! Yeah, Gross!! If the offenders are lucky they will bring in Portible Restrooms. During this time, no one is allowed to shower, go to work, or go to chow. All you can do is sit on your bunk, write letters, and eat nasty Johnny Sacks (Sack Lunches).
Ask if you have any more questions. I am all too familiar with Lock Downs.

Lauren

P.S. Hide it in the mayonnaise & they'll never find it!!

Default Beeville Lockdown

Ok Garza East, Garza West and the W-6 Trustee Camp are all in Beeville, TX. My husband is there. I just got a text message stating that ALL TX PRISONS ARE ON LOCKDOWN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Reason being-the execution of an inmate in Huntsville on 9-16-09. So until further notice there is not any visitation going on anywhere.

As for lockdowns in general-Beeville and Connally go on lockdown once every 6 months. Usually during summer and then between right after Christmas and the end of January. My brother-in-law is in Connally-that's how I know about that one.

Default Plane State Jail

Hi
Can anyone tell me if they have heard Plane is on lockdown? My loved one has been suggesting they would be soon.
Also, does anyone know how hurricane Alex is affecting the Southern, TX prisons?
Is there a thread I am missing.
Most posts for Plane State/Lockdowns/Hurricanes are old posts?
Thank you
