Getting ready to visit my fiance that's in Folsom

If you been visting someone there and already know the experience and what's it's like.Then maybe you can help me and tell me in details about it?I'm from L.A. Any advise on what to wear and what not to wear when I visit him?

You are not allowed on the grounds until 6:00am. Be sure NOT to show up before that. However, you want to arrive promptly at 6:00 and jump in line as quick as possible. Around 7:00 a C.O. will come out and pass out numbered cards. You can leave as soon as you get a number or at least sit in your car to stay warm. They start calling numbers to come in and be processed at 8am. You will need to fill out a white form that asks for your name, address, kids names & ages (if bringing any), the inmates name and cdc #. Have this filled out before your # is called up to the front desk or they get irritated. What to wear: No blue jeans, blue shirts, tank tops. I usually wear black pants and a black shirt to be safe (just in case they are nit-picking that day). Be sure to wear shoes that have a back to them (even a strap is fine). Also, NO wires in your bra- they will make you rip it out if you are wearing one and you can't visit without a bra. I think you are able to bring $30 in (maybe more- maybe someone else can verify this for you). I would advise stopping at your bank and getting it all in crisp $1 bills. This will help you avoid getting change from the machines that are not always working and also from frustration from the food/drink machines not wanting crinkled money. If you want to have your pictures taken together be sure to bring quarters to purchase photo duckets while you are waiting in the visitor processing room. I believe they are $2 each (not sure if there is a limit). You are only allowed to bring in money, 10 pictures, your driver license,and 1 car key, in a clear bag or purse. Once you are finished processing, a C.O. will call up around 15 people or so and you go out back from the processing room. You will all walk up a hill and into another building where you will show your id card and get your hand stamped. Then you will need to remove your shoes, jacket, belt, and any jewelry. Place your belongings on the table and walk through the metal detector. After you put yourself back together and everyone else does too, you will be ready to go down to the visiting area. In the winter it is always smart to get seating inside but when it gets close to 1 or 1:30 you may want to look around for outside seating because they close the inside area around 2pm. Also, visiting ends at 2:30pm and it is horrible trying to get back out of the visiting area and back to your car at this time. Although you would be missing 1/2 an hour, it is advisable to leave at 2pm to avoid this huge problem. If you do leave at 2:30 I know you will remember this advise I just gave you and will wish you had taken it. I visit at Old Folsom and this is the best advise I have for anyone visiting there. I personally hate the entire process and opt to only go up for family visits because I live so far away and I don't think its fair to make our small children go through the whole ordeal. I go maybe once a year now by myself for a day visit. I hope you find what I have shared with you worthwhile. Enjoy your visit. :-) Kari
