Default If I had a Super Power, I would end addiction. Or would I??????

The other day, while bored at work, I asked my co-worker, if he had the opportunity to have one Super Power that he could use only ONE time, what would he do?

He never did give me an answer, but he asked me the same question. Simple, I said, "I would wipe the world clean of all addiction". Feeling smuge and righteous, I went back to work.

My co-worker thought on that for awhile and then asked me, "So people could still drink and use drugs without addiction?"

No. That is not what I wanted. I want the use of drugs to stop, be gone.

That simple question of his got me to thinking, a lot.

If addiction was gone, anyone could use drugs safely, continually, and without fear? Or would they give it up? Is it the drug or the reaction to the drug that causes the addiciton? Could every addict use recreationally?

If the addiction was gone, the underlying problems that caused the addiction would still be there. Would there still be crime committed to get the drug? People steal for cigarettes, why not for a non addictive drug? Would there be any need for drugs if there were no addiction? Would every smoker quit? Would every heroin addict stop using. Would every sexaholoic stop having sex? Would every chocaholic stop eating chocolate?

What would happen to the drug lords? Would they find themselves with no customer base, or would it be increased because now the addictive part of the drug has been removed?

If I use my one time use super power to remove addiction from the world the drugs still remain. If I use my one time super power to remove drugs from the Earth, the addiction still remains.

I am begining to believe that if I am every given the opportunity to have a one time super power, it will be to have all the answers. I have way too many questions. I need the answers.
