Default Salinas Visiting...

Just wondering what SVSP visiting is like, assuming you can visit that is. Is it a long time to process? How are the CO's? Are they very strict with the amount of physical contact? Also, do you sit next to each other, or across the table from each other? Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

usually they arent too bad; it depends on the day though as with anything else in most prisons. . . overall they arent too bad they usually let you sit next to each other and hold hands, as long as things arent way over the top they seem to let a lil extra contact be ok. i have heard of places a lot more strict than svsp as far as the amount of contact you can have.

Oh, that's good. That's the way it is in Lancaster, currently. They let me sit there with my head on his shoulder and his arm around me. It was so nice.

I know a lot of people complain about Lancaster, but I haven't had any problems there. If your husband is SNY he won't get to move there, because they're removing the SNY. That's why my husband got shipped out of there. It was perfect for me because I live only 20 minutes away in Palmdale, and was able to see him almost every weekend. Now he's over 4 hours away.

At Lancaster, you do have to wait for at least 2 hours in your car before they open the gates if you want to get in first thing in the morning, then it's another hour or so to process in, which is a pain. But for me it was nice quiet time. I just brought my dvd player and watched movies in the car while I waited.

Besides the having to sleep on the side of the 101 to get a decent number, its not all that bad!

Well, when I go, I'll be staying in a hotel. What time do you recommend getting in the car line to get in the first or second group? When I visited at Lancaster, as long as I was in line by 5:30 I would be in the first group.

i usualy stay in the motel also and get in the line by about 5:15 . . . depending on if they are calling 20 or 40 at a time (they seem to change it randomly) i am in either the first or second. so its about the same as lancaster.

Look up the threads here for the CTF/Salinas carline ( There is one line for both prisons!! Going on both the North and South exits of the 101 Fwy.). Good Luck!! LOL
I would get inline to visit CTF @ 5:30 am and we would either be in the first or second group for our prison.

Just a sugestion.....I would visit my son every 30 days, since I was coming from over 250 miles the prison could not terminate our visits!! This was for both Saturday and Sunday.

Kelly, thanks for the suggestion, both about the thread, and the visiting. That's what I planned, probably once every 4-6 weeks or so, and yes, luckily I won't be terminated, so I can do both days.

Alicesworld, what motel do you stay at, and how far away is it from the prison? The only thing I could find is a Best Western, but they want $80 a night. I'm trying to get up there the weekend of the 18th.

Stephanie, that is cheap for the Best Western, I have paid up to 130 a night there. I have stayed at the Motel 6 in King for around $35 a night. There are alot more choices in King City and Salinas. King City is only about 15 minutes to the south

Stephanie: i usually stay at the soledad 8 motel; they run about 60 a night and are right next door to the best western. that is a great proce for the best western tho. usually they are about 99 a night.
I used to stay in king city at the motel 6 for about 35 a night; but the last few times i have had to take 2 of my kids with me, so i stay right in soledad so the kids can check out at noon and go get some pizza and starbucks and get their nails done because there is a lil shopping center close to the motel. plus once i get my number i have grown partial to being able to go back to the room and lay down again for an hour and then get ready like a real person instead of doing it all in the car.

I always stayed at the Motel 6 in King City and made all my reservations online. It's actually a fairly nice Motel 6. Alot cleaner than most I have been to!!
Oh, the Starbucks in Soledad.......what a life saver!! LOL :P

i would die if it wasnt for that starbucks. . . AND its a drive through. nothing like a drive thru at 5 am
i agree about the motel 6 in king city. i might have to stay there next trip cuz im way poor this time and that extra 30 is way to much for the soledad 8
