Love Affair

He is my best friend, my soul mate, my lover.

He is the love of my life.

I can't imagine my world without him.

He is the most amazing man I have ever known.

He is everything I have ever dreamed of.

But we are not alone.

He is bound to a love affair and can't let go.

I know he loves me with all of his heart,

But I am nothing compared to her.

The sexual desires she brings,

Leaves him unsatisfied with only me.

She takes away all of his pain.

She gives him confidence and happiness.

I try to do these things too,

But she is much better at it than me.

She makes his heart race.

She consumes his days and his nights.

If I want to spend time with him,

Then I have to share him with her.

He has tried to leave her, but he can't.

When she is not there his depression takes over.

And he goes back to her.

Once again she fills his head with lies.

She leads him to believe he doesn't need her.

That he has complete control over his urges.

That it's only a temporary affair,

And it doesn't really mean anything.

He tries to convince me of this too,

But I know it's actually her,

Who has control of him.

Even though she makes him feel really good,

She has a much darker side.

One that he refuses to see.

He doesn't realize the danger she brings.

Or the disaster she causes.

When she is around he tries to hide her from me.

No matter how much he loves me,

She makes him not care that he's hurting me.

I know what you're thinking.

How could I stay?

I know you don't understand,

Why I won't walk away.

Believe me,

I ask myself this same thing.

I just love him too much to surrender to her.

She doesn't love him like I do.

She doesn't care what happens to him.

She is only going to destroy him.

I know in my heart that he is too good for her.

She doesn't deserve him, I do.

He is mine and I will fight for him.

I won't let her steal him from me.

But I'm so afraid,

That it will be a never ending battle.

I am terrified that she will win.

He is bound by a love affair and can't let go.

Her name is methamphetamine.

He finally hit rock bottom. I so desperately wanted to rescue him, but I knew if I did, it would only make it worse. So I sat back and watched him fall and now I am there to help him on his journey back up. For the first time in his life, he has admitted that he has a problem and wants help. Only time will tell. Please keep us in your prayers...

It has been nearly two years since I posted this poem. I am happy to report that he has come quite a long way! He is doing well and coming home soon.

This is an incredible thread. I read the poem, which totally hit home with me. Then I kept reading, noticed the first date and read your last post where chills ran up and down my arms.
