Default Need A Little Help

Hey there!

I am in need of any good internet links of past civil cases that inmates represented themselves on civil issues such as Police Brutality & such. EJ sent me 2 cases of inmates representing themselves & he wants me to find them & send them to him to help him along with his case.

EJ is currently going to represent himself in a Police Brutality lawsuit because over 20 civil lawyers including the ACLU were not willing to take on his case of SEVERE police brutality that he suffered through last year. All of their COWARDLY excuses were they couldn't take his case on because he was going to get convicted of his crime. That has nothing whatever (in my opinion) to do with the severe beating he recieved by the crooked police department in the town where he lived. He has hospital pictures & his bloody clothes & they still wouldn't take on his case. He & I went through hell trying to find someone ANYONE that would help him out, with no results whatever! So now he has to represent himself & I am a little afraid that things might not go so good for him because of that.

Any kind of help to links or advice would be greatly appreciated by us both!
Thank you in advance!

Take care!
Diona

Default Thank You!!

Thank you Tracy & JDs for your help!

I actually have 2 cases that EJ gave me to look up for him, but I am clueless as to how to find these particular cases. I am normally pretty good when it comes to internet research. Legal stuff isn't my specialty though.

If you ladies or anybody else know of legal web sites or possibly places that I can go to that have past legal civil cases I would appreciate it so I can look these 2 up for him & send it out.

JDs I honestly think that EJ is done w/lawyers & their cowardly ways!! Although if there is 1 that is willing to take on his case I bet I could convince him otherwise. I think if he represents himself he is only going to get himself into trouble with the system. We all know they don't like inmates sticking up for themselves!!

Thanks a bunch guys!!
Diona

Diona, Have you had any luck w/ your research? One book I would recommend is "Legal Research" by Nolo publishers. They break down their subjects into laymen's terms fairly well. Also check into Pacer. It is an on-line resource for federal cases. You do have to subscribe. My county offers on-line access to cases, too. You may want to see if your county does this. Just some places to start if you haven't already found what you need.

Ms. Diona Johnson:
Please go to a college campus where a law program is being taught (place where you become a lawyer---"Law school"). Be very discreet what you plan on doing and ask someone in the law school library about a "ProBono" manual. If someone ask why you need it say, "I want to learn self-representation for future use." Then put your finger over your mouth. Some of the law students have not learned not to mess with the law in court yet; they may help you, but it is not professional help. Secondly, "A lawyer that represents himself has a fool for a client ." Out- of- state lawyers will sometimes represent or refer you to one of their friends in your state. Watch out for "shyster daddy" for he promises the moon and stars and sells you for a fee. If I can be of more assistance, please e-mail me on this site........ 38 Special.
