Question Allred Texas Prison Unit-Lockdown Updates

My son, Paul was just transferred to Allred last week. I got a letter from him today that he'd mailed Thursday morning (the day after he got there) and he said the whole unit is on lockdown. Does anyone know why or for how long?

Also, anyone that has a friend or loved at Allred...'anything' you can tell me about it as far as is it 'good' 'bad' or what would be appreciated. Or any contact persons or # for Allred. I printed out the TDCJ page about it but thought perhaps somebody may know other #s.

I hear that Allred has alot of problems with gang activity. Is this true? Gosh, I hope not!

Anything anyone can tel me would sure ease this 'momma's heart". Thanks!

Whitewolf,
I believe we have a couple members with loved ones there but it may be a bit before they log onto PTO or see your post.
Hopefully someone will show up soon..
Sorry for the delay,
Fed-X

My Fiancee says that Allred unit is like Daycare compared to other units. There is gang activity in ALL! It is a way to survive. Like I said..PM me if you need to know anything about the people there and the unit itself!

Could anyone in Texas call Allred and ask them if they are still on lock down and possibly for how long??

I know I could call myself - but - um - I have a problem calling prisons. I can't help it - I just feel sick and maybe that is normal and everybody feels the same way, but I can ASK right? *Smile*

Well, I think they have only been on lockdown once or twice since randy and I have been together. This one is the longest so far I believe! But I will let you all know when the lockdown is over!!

I guess it means it will be a while before I hear from my friend again. With his luck they got locked down the week he was supposed to go to commissary. Well, I guess we'll just have to help keep their spirit up best we can huh?

Thanks!!

Do you know if this is the whole unit or just certain buildings? Just curious since there was nothing about it in my letter today.

LV_Cassi - Missing your commissary day is a bitterweet thing during lockdowns. On the one hand, if the unit's doing a shakedown, he doesn't have to pack as much for the trip (lighter load and quick search). On the other hand, he has to suffer through the lockdown on "johnnies" (sack lunches; mostly hotdogs/sausages or bologna sandwiches).
On another note (and this may not apply per the Allred lockdown), but most projections on lockdown timeframes are exaggerated. For instance, on my last two units, the first day of lockdown they pass out a note to every cell telling the inmates that it's scheduled for "at least" a week and could run as long as a month. 9 times out of 10, we came up off of lockdown within 3-4 days.
Ofcourse these were minimum security units and were annually scheduled shakedown/lockdowns (ie. not because of a security problem from an escape or violence or suspected violence, etc.)
And, like christal said, sometimes it's just one building or block vs. the whole unit.
Hope it's not another 3 weeks though.
God bless.

I know Middleton is also under lockdown. I got a letter from him dated the 7th and they were starting it that day.

I believe it is the "annual" lock and shake down in Allred Unit. They usually have it this time of year, so it will probably last for a while. Last year it lasted for three weeks or close to a month. Since they guys never know exactly when they will come for them, they have to keep their stuff packed, and last year my friend's pod was the last one they searched.

Thank you Sefton for sharing!

Middleton got off lockdown last Thursday according to John's letter. A month of that- oh, that would be awful. Does anyone else see why it is that they make then strip down all the time??? John said during this lockdown thing they took them all into the gym and made them stand around naked. Why??? Perhaps I'm missing something, but I just don't see what the use is for that?

Who is ever sure why they do anything but they were obviously looking for something.

Chloe's Mom -
Amen to vim1946's statement "Who is ever sure why they do anything", cause Lord knows I had to experience some pretty ludicrous things while doing my time.
But the reason for the stripping, and this is actually one that makes sense, is to account for all the contraband and also to check for any new tatoos. Believe me, you'd be amazed at where guys try to hide cigarettes or whatever (in other words, yes, they ask you to "bend over and spread 'em").
I guess after 6 years of it you get numb to some of it, but one thing that always bothered me was that they had female guards in the gym at the time while all these guys are standing around nude waiting to be "examined" before they could put their duds back on. Then again, we also had open showers and female guards were always walking by those for various reasons. But then it really gets strange when there are guys in the shower and the prison is running public tours through the unit. I never could get used to that.
