Default employment in counseling

hi
I was wondering, can Angel get a job to pay well out here, counseling people for things like drug addiction and anger mgmt. He has years of experience inside as a facilitator of the ART program at his prison. Can he use that as a skill, besides his carpentry or kitchen experience? He was saying he had to put some hours into it out here and can get a job ...but also said he could get into construction work, and has friends inside that have offered him work doing that WHEN he comes out. any ideas? thanks

Addiction (drug/alcohol) counselling used to be an 'associates' degree. Two years of college credits in the field required to graduate and be certified (in KY..your mileage may vary in NY...) Most places that would hire a counsellor w/ a record would be folks who work a client base just like him. Look to halfway houses or aftercare facilities. His MIXED experience, will make him a better liason for clients there. Might not pay really well, but it's worthwhile, and he could do it part time while he's making actual money in construction up there.

Why not contact some rehab centers and ask them directy? They can probably give you some insight on this and even how and where to apply for employment.
