Please use this thread to discuss up to date news in regards to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, which has now started.

Update (3-28-03): This thread was originally the first news & info thread relating to the war in Iraq, but we have now opened a dedicated forum for War, Terrorism & Related discussions. This thread will continue to be used as a General War in Iraq news thread but please be sure to also check out the other threads, and create new posts if it is on a specific topic relating to the war in Iraq, Terrorism, etc..

There is a large amount of discussion going on right now on whether Saddam and his higher ups were taken out tonight.
I have to say I feel that would be wishful thinking but wouldn't it be nice to cut the head off at the very start and not have to get so much involved.
I saw his video that was shown on Fox & CNN around midnight my time and that guy seemed much older to me than Saddam has been recently. He also didn't mention anything that proved it was anything but a pre-recording.

Wow...just like one of them MTV stars.
No idea if it was him or not, Huzzie--as his friends call him--and I were never that close, so it's hard to tell. Plus, with that lopsided beret, glasses and s'tache, he makes me dizzy if I look at him too long. But that'd be wonderful and then some if they coulda plugged his hairy ass tonight. Haven't seen hide nor hair of that Tariq creep, maybe they introduced him to one of those TomCruise missiles?

Rumor has it that 2/3'rds of the Iraqi military is ready to surrender. I hate to perpetuate the spread of inaccurate information, but I hearing a lot of talk about this. Of course, this is not part of Saddam's republican guard, but the larger and less well taken care of miliary elements.

its so scary not knowing when this is going to end.. it could go on for months or days for all we know. my heart goes out to the troops families!

i just saw the video and that was not him. Did'nt even sound like him. We been threatin to go to war for months with him and saddam is prepared to cover his buns.

Sadaam has a lot of impersonators that do his news stuff. Funny isn't it how he alsway has to hide!!! I think it's just plain funny that there are more than just him that look like that. lol
I just thought I would lighten it up a bit cuz all of this just makes me sad because my cousin is over there. But I too hope that they get him soon so there will be as less casualties as possible. That would be great if they would just surrender. I'm fixing to turn on CNN and see what's new...

No, he has not been taken out.... We heard this many times about Bin Ladin and he is still around somewhere. Sadam, has the same capability and the same countries will hide him forever if necessary....

No, that was not him on the video.... He has several people who are look alikes to do this very thing for him.... He probably is not even in Iraq any longer..... Yes, some of the Iraq military have surrendered and that is good, but they too are not the real hard core Samam followers. No, the War is only just begun... We are in for a battle.

May God Bless and Keep us all and the Iraq civilians. Along with Isral, Turkey, Iran, and any others who are in the area..

As time goes on, I wonder how many weapons are going to show up that Saddam has claimed he didn't have. Fox News & CNN are saying that early this morning (our time) he fired 4 missles - Scud & Al Samud - at Kuwait. 3 of them were shot down and one fell into the desert on its own.

I agree with Donna. I think accepting that Saddam has been taken out is wishful thinking at this point.

I hope like hell he has, be it wishful thinking? Probably.
Did I hear the news right today? Anyone else hear that a couple oil wells are on fire? First I heard of this, just wondered.
