Default List of Females on Death Row across the country.

I think many times we forget about the women that are on Death Row.
*************************************************
WOMEN ON DEATH ROW
You may want to write to one of the 50 women on death row in the USA,
because: many have
been abused sexually, physically, and mentally all their lives. Added to
this is the often brutal,
abusive, degrading, and inhuman treatment by prison guards and officials.
A third of the women
surveyed said that corrections officers watch them when they use the
toilet, shower or change
clothes. Many women on death row live in almost complete isolation, which
puts them at a
serious risk of developing mental illness, or exacerbating existing mental
illness. In Florida,
Sunny Jacobs who was on death row there for 18 years before being
exonerated and released, lost
the use of her vocal cords for some time because of the complete isolation
of her imprisonment.
(Unfortunately, her boy friend who was also exonerated had already been
executed). A guard who felt sorry for her gave her some money so she
could get a bus away from the prison when she was released. Sunny was
never indemnified by the State of Florida for her false inhuman
imprisonment and near execution.

Prison is a very lonely place. You must always be on guard and very
careful in trusting anyone. May of these women, as it is for many
prisoners, have lost contact with family or friends. Women on Death Row
also must deal with problems similar to those men on death row contend
with, such as ineffective and inadequate defense counsel; misconduct by
prosecutors or the police; struggles with drug and alcohol addictions; and
having their co-defendant receive a reduced non-death sentence for
testifying against them.

you can find some of them on the websites of the department of corrections, just type in oklahoma department of corrections in search and it should bring something up for you. they should have an offender search or inmate search, type in the name and you just might get lucky and get a address..

In texas you can't send them stamps or writing paper, the writing paper has to be bought from a TDCJ authorized supplier and they have to purchase their stamps from the prison store.

In order to send a money order you have to get a Inmate Trust slip and fill it out and it is mailed by itself to huntsville. the inmate has to send the money slips to you. You can't send anything directly to the inmate, but letters, pictures, cards that kind of thing.

I wouldn't offer any money until you get to know the person, it is awful to say, but inmates Male and female have taken advantage of some penpals, not all of them. But if I were you I would etablish a relationship first.

If you have anymore questions or need any help either ask here or feel free to PM me anytime.

Texas recently added another woman to its Death Row: 21 year old Chelsea Lea Richardson, who was convicted of conspiring with three other people to murder her boyfriend's parents so that he could collect their life insurance. So far as I know, she did not directly participate in the murders.

Strangely, this case received little media attention (I've only found a couple of newspaper articles online). Is this sort of thing becoming so common that the press no longer regards it worthy of attention? I shudder.

Just to clarify the comments made above on what one can send to a Death Row prisoner at Mountain View: One can send books, stationery, and greeting cards, but they must be sent directly from the publisher or wholesaler (Amazon.com is great for this sort of thing). Stationery cannot have the prisoner's name on it, and they are not allowed to have pictures of themselves (try and figure that one out!).

I don't want to "tell tales out of school" but if the only thing you know about Brittany Holberg is from her web site (which is run by her boyfriend), please be careful. I have no opinion or knowledge of her guilt or innocence, but do know from someone with firsthand knowledge that she is often less than truthful about some things and not generally liked by the other prisoners at Mt. View. I mention only to advise caution, and am not at liberty to discuss specifics.

im against the death penalty! No one has the right to take another's life. The inmate or the exicutioner!! In my eyes the one who puts the needle in anothers arm ,or flips the switch to the chair is no better or different than the person who is in there for murder! There is only one being that we have to answer for that kind of punishment is the Lord.

I write to many of the women on death row. I also enable them to circulate a newsletter amongst themselves. Its time consuming and expensive but I am learning a lot and am so happy that they enjoy it so much.

Hey, that's wonderful! As it happens, I have some experience as a writer and editor. Is there any way in which I might be able to help? The one thing I am perennially short of is money, but my skills are always at the disposal of those who seek to make things a bit easier for the women on death row.

I should mention also that if anyone is seeking to write to Debra Milke in Arizona, she may well appreciate good wishes but is not seeking pen pals and almost certainly will not reply. Part of this is simple practicality--the only writing materials she can get are very expensive and of low quality (she would be allowed to have only the "inside" of a pen--can you imagine writing with that?), but I believe she has other reasons, which remain hers and of which I have no knowledge. Her case and the treatment she has received in prison ought to be a national outrage....why they are not completely eludes me.

Yes please. ANything that you would like to write I would love to include in the newsletter. Things they ask for are articles about craft, like origama, cross stich etc.
Dreams, places and travel articles, short fiction. Just anything really.
Please PM me for additional information.

I now have three penpals on DR, it is some thing that you must be ready for, they begin to use you as a window to the outside world, I have one who hasnt wrote to me for a while, he is depressed ( a friend got owrd to me thats why ) but even though I havent heard from him I still write, I have another who is an extreamly intellagent man, and funny, i write weekly to him, and the last one i have just taken on, another one, i have sent the first letter and i am waiting for his reply.

To write to the USA is not any more hassle than writng to people here, unless weighing the letters is a pain

A couple of days ago i was asked why i didnt have a female penfriend, But as i am a member of lifelines, i just taken on the names that they give me, but maybe seeing this thread I will consider a female penpal. I do not judge and i dont write to anyone because I find them intreating , I write to them to give a little bit of life back to them.

are any of these woman asking for penpals ?? does anyone know?

Hello everyone

I can testify that this has been so real...i am hurt! angry, frustrated at the system...why do some countires preach to others when they aint perfect themselves????I am a muslim in which emm their is the shariah law which most people condemn,i can tell u that if the family forgives the criminal..then no one has the right to do anything to the person, let God be the judge and give the punishment.

I read about the woman that killed her little daughter, few mnths old,not that i agree but have they heard about post-natal depression?i really dnt see the differnce in the people that kill these people or the people that commit the crime..
how can u sleep after u know you have jus taking someone elses life? the people that have commited murder have also killed themselves as they wnt be able to live with it,locking them up for life is enuff, why take thier life??

This hurts me so much! Oh lord help us...
I have got just one penpal and yes i am willing to have more....but, i dnt think i can handle the emotional strain, i get to personal and very emotional. Al-though that aint obvious in my letters...Maybe i will stick with one penpal till june/july and if i feel i am strong! i will take on some more....

Thanx for the info on the people on death-row...Oh God, i am grateful for everything and for sparing my life.
