Up to 700 inmates in Kentucky could receive an early release in the coming week, as COVID-19 cases rise in state prisons.

Brown and Beshear said the criteria used to determine if inmates are eligible for release will mirror what they used in the early release of 1,200 state inmates since the onset of the pandemic — prioritizing those vulnerable to COVID-19 because of a health condition and near the end of their sentence, while excluding those convicted of sexual and violent crimes.
