Default SCI Smithfield info wanted
Our nephew has just been moved there from a county jail. I was wondering if anyone has info to share about how things are there. How is sending letters there? Any info would be appreciated. We live in a different state & don't have contact with his parents (long story)so I don't know if they will visit him or not.

I toured SMT a few years ago. It operates much like the other facilities of its generation.

Specific to your post, mail is sent to a location in FL, where it is scanned and sent to the facility electronically. It's printed at the prison and delivered to the prisoner. Most of the time, the prison delivers it to the inmate the day they get it. Right now, the biggest part of the timeline is the USPS getting mail from you to the FL center.
