Default No Word From Wayne's Sister and Family...As Well As Other Family and Friends

We have countless friends and family who are missing - including Wayne's sister, brother-in-law, and two teenage nephews. They live in a town called Mandeville, just out of New Orleans. It's just across Lake Pontchatrain. We have not heard from them since before the storm. We don't know if they evacuated or if they tried to ride it out. The not knowing and hoping for the best is hard to do with the devestation is never-ending on the news.

A cousin of mine got a phone call in to my aunt and said she and her kids and grandkids are ok. However, she said that other cousins had opted to ride out the storm. No word from them either. At least cousin was going to ride the storm out. She and her kids live less than a mile from the coast in Pascagoula. Again - nothing. Right now, there's more than a dozen family members of mine who we have not heard from.

Many members of my family thought that since they survivied Camille, they could survive any storm. Well, Katrina was like no other storm.

We have several friends in Gulfport and Biloxi. Wayne worked at a resort in Mobile while he was in work release and left behind several friends there. Heck, even the work release facility where he was is probably no longer there.

Fortunately, I was far enough north that all we had to deal with was no power for a while and tree limbs everywhere. The storage shed lost some of its siding. It all seems so trivial when I see what my home state is going through.

Watching the news is so depressing. I've been in every casino that was in Gulfport and Biloxi. I spent a weekend at Treasure Bay. Played slots at the Grand. I've been to a seminar at one of the hospitals in Gulfport that's so damaged it might as well not be there.

Tomorrow, we're going shopping for supplies to send to the coast. It's all we know to do. It seems so trivial with so many lives lost and so much destruction. "Um...here's a bar of soap and a can of tuna. Lots of luck to you." I want to do something - anything for them. I want to hear that they are ok.

I'll keep you posted when/if we hear something from them.

(((((((((((Danielle))))))))) I pray your family is fine. The whole thing no matter how much I watch on the news is hard to fathom, so many heartbreaking events.

You and your family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers. Please let us know when you hear anything.

Thumbs up

All those affected by Hurricane Katrina are in my thoughts and prayers. I have been through 4 hurricanes(Erin,Opal, Ivan, Dennis), but Katrina was something I couldnt imagine. God word says he will never leave nor forsake you and even though it may be alittle harder to see right now God will see you through. Things will get better. p.s. keeps us posted

((((hugs)))) Danielle.... You and Wayne are in my thoughts and I hope you hear from your family soon.... I have a cousin and his wife and kids in New Orleans that no one has heard from either...

I've been to New Orleans several times with the most recent being this past Spring for a conferance and I loved parts of that city.... The Aquarium and the shops along the water.... Canal Street and the street (forgetting the name right now) I always took the trolley down as I loved the homes and landscaping.... When they show the parts of the city I keep getting teary eyed at the destruction....

I can't even imagine how horrible it is for the people there.....

Keeping you and all of your family and friends in my thoughts and prayers. I have been in many hurricanes including the devastating Andrew in Florida. I have always chose to ride them out because of my pets. It is really hard to judge just how much damage you may or may not get. This one seems to have been mostly all water, where Andrew was alot of wind and very little water.

Keeping everyone in the states (affected by this devastation) in my prayers and hopefully as time passes everyone will be accounted for. Perhaps your loved ones decided to ride it out in someone else's home that was perhaps stronger.

Wishing you all of my best.

I feel the same way you do. I don't know anyone personally who is on the coast, but it is still painful on some level knowing that people here are so affected.

You and your family will be in my thoughts and I hope that you hear good news from all of them soon.

(((((((((((hugs))))))))))

This is devastating and I simply cannot think of anything to say. The not knowing has got to be the worst of all, and something i cannot comprehend and just know you and yours are in my thoughts and prayers, as well as all of those who are living this nightmare.

Please do not send supplies! There is no way to deliver them - and no place to deliver them to!! Cash only (check or credit card) to Red Cross or Salvation Army is the only way to go for the time being.

Not knowing anything is the worst feeling. Prayers that your family members will be located soon. It will take time because someone has to get the names of all people rescued and get the info computerized, etc. Time consuming! Just pray and keep the faith that you'll hear from them - but not for a couple of weeks or more.
