Does anyone have any experience sending prescription glasses via mail?

If so, do i send them directly to my LO or to the medical wing first?

It will depend on the prison system where he is, so ask him to find out. If you don't follow their rules, he won't receive the glasses. Example: US federal prisons require that an "approved package slip",signed by their counselor, be` enclosed in the package. Another issue could be (it was for me) having the approved package returned, unopened. When "approved package form enclosed" was written on the outside of the package and it was remailed, it was eventually delivered to me.

Another possibility in the bop system was a potential change in policy not allowing eyeglasses to be sent in from outside. I don't know if it was adopted, or not.

My man had to get special permission to get eye glasses made outside and he had only so many weeks to get the job done. The glasses had to be mailed back by the business, I could not do it.

CDCR no longer allows outside glasses to be sent in. If they need new glasses, they have to come from the optician inside. You'll need to ask your loved one if they're allowed and what the process is.

The same holds true in Texas, it's done through the prison system

In Colorado no outside glasses may be brought in unless the original pair they were booked in, and even then only when they have plastic frames.

All other glasses must be through the prison system. They have 4 frame styles and all of them are thick black frames and are terribly unattractive.

In NY, they have to see the eye doctor and glasses are made at one of the facilities. I tried sending reading glasses once and they were rejected.
