First Post: I've just found out that my loved one is headed to DVI. I have visited him while he was in Arizona but not sure what to expect now that he is finally back in-state. DO i need to re-apply for visiting or does it just transfer. Do they use the cards in the vending machines? I still have a bunch of money on the card and will ask for a refund if those are not used at DVI. How long is visiting? Can i visit both days? Is an appointment needed? how fast is mail getting through. Does anyone know if they have good programs there for the inmates? Thank you in advance

Default DVI: What is the process in Reception?

Hi! So what is the actual process in reception? The inmate sees their counselor first? Then get an appointment for a physical? Then the counselor orders their file? Then they get mainlined? My husband got to DVI on 11/22. Any assistance will help on this waiting game. Thanks!

Reception is the hardest part (I think)
It can go fast, or take forever. I think its supposed to be like 90 days or so. But it can take longer.
Pretty much what you said in your post is the way it goes.
They will figure out his points and what yard he should be on from those.
They will likely give him a few places he might be sent, and then when they have room for him, send him wherever they have room for him.
Once mainlined, it goes a bit easier.

sorry this took so long to answer. I just now saw it and merged your question into the newbie thread...

Default DVI: What is the process in Reception?

Thanks for replying! I notice that some the questions are old and I didnít know if things may have changed. I just wanted to know if anyone knows the sequence of what happens while in reception. Counselor first, physical second, etc.? Waiting with no answers on end is hard. Thanks, Weeeblee!

You know? Im not sure the order or even if there IS one.
all I know is from what my hub told me.
And his case was really different because he was in reception for 13 months. yeah.

All of that got done, but he sat in reception forever. FINALLY he got sent to cci.
Just keep writing him. I believe you can send him some stationary to correspond with you and if he does get moved the mail will eventually get to him. (probably really old by the time he gets it but he should get it)

Also not sure yet if they have implemented the phones for reception inmates. That is new or going to be happening (I hear)
Again sorry it took so long to get any info.
and yes, the info is old and most likely it still applies.
CDCr moves like s-l-o-w.

I see. That’s good to know that there might not be an order. I may have to update this message once we are all over this process. It may help other people or at least give them some peace of mind. Good thing is that he just saw his Counselor, so hopefully he gets mainlined soon. And DVI currently gives him a call once a month, not sure if that’s a new thing. I’m just glad to hear his voice.

Default After Seeing Counselor - Mainline

Do you know typically when he will get mainlined after he sees his counselor? At this point they have already told him his points and gave him two options of where he will be going.

Im probably not the one to answer due to the crazy amount of time it took to mainline my hub.
I believe they *say* it will be about 90 days.
And dont be surprised if they move him to a facility other than what they said they would.
It all depends on where they get room for him that fits his needs.

Default After Seeing Counselor - Mainline

Welp “90 days” would suck considering his sentence would almost be up. There’s almost no reason to mainline him at that point. I guess with CDCR, I wouldn’t be surprised with the amount of waiting time.
