Default Post Conviction Granted. Now back to circuit court

My pal in Maryland has been granted a post conviction from the Court of Special Appeals. I am just wondering what will happen now? I have read a few things and i have come up with the circuit court can
1. Have a new trial
2. Offer a reduction in his sentence
3. Possible immediate release

Is this true?
