Unhappy In county for fines / How could he pay fines while in Federal prison

I don't know if this is the right place for this but here goes. My son was sentenced to life in prison for a federal drug conspiracy in 2010 his sentence was reduced due to sentence reform. He served 9 years and was released to halfway house it was a great day but that was yesterday. Today he's in a county jail for 10 yr old fines. I'm so upset how could he pay fines while in federal prison? Does anyone have any advice for me. I justcant beliave it.His case worker at the halfway house says this is not supposed to happen and says she's working on it. Can anyone help me?

Hi sadmomoftwo I would think that the Federal folks would have taken a % of any deposits on his books I believe that's how its usually done.....I hate this for you, and for him. So close to Home, now this. It just ain't right Seems like, at the very least they would send him a bill, give him some street time to get it taken care of??

Get him a lawyer, hopefully a public defender and get him before a judge to get him released. Try the ACLU if that fails. It should not be a lot of work or billable hours, so maybe someone will take it on.

The bop is very aggressive in collecting money owed to federal courts, but I'm not sure if they care anything about State/local ones. I hope he can find a lawyer to get him out of debtor's prison (I forgot, there's no debtor's prison in the US, sure)

I didnt sleep all night. After 9 years I thought ok we got this and now he's back in jail. The case worker is saying this should not happen but it did. Thanks for your support. Waiting to hear from Halfway house trying not to cry.

Can the fines be paid now? If nothing else, pass the hat among family friends, or have a raffle / auction / fundraising event.

Yes good advice. Try to just pay them if possible. As soon as they are paid the judge will release him immediately.
