Default How to get handheld games into the system?

in this ongoing struggle of having my son in the system for a potentially long time, and in the midst of a pandemic making his struggle much worse, i am wondering how i can help. two concerns are when will they be given the vaccine, and how can we further his attempt to get the system to approve individual handheld game consoles for inmates?

as members of a forced group living situation, and with poor enforcement of available PPE usage, all inmates are at much greater risk of getting sick. is there any way to advocate for them to be included in vaccine rollout?

and in mandatory lockdown of the whole facility, tensions are running high. there are many studies and articles out there about some facilities that have allowed handheld gamiing consoles, and how much of a relief they are. my son has started a project to get that started, but is running into 'brick walls'...does anyone have any thoughts or experience working with the systems involved??

thank you in advance...

The Pennsylvania Prison Society has been a constant and steady voice with both the DOC and the legislature on steps to protect the men and women in our prisons from COVID-19. We are tracking the numbers, meeting with prisoners virtually and providing input to the DOC.

As for individual game units, the DOC policy isn't so much about denying them. Like anything else a prisoner can buy or receive from the outside, it would have to come through an approved vendor and meet strict security requirements. Look at the TVs they can get -- clear casing, from a specific vendor, etc. At the moment, no one is making an item which would meet their security criteria.

thanks for your input! yes, i understand the concerns...however, NJ DOC does allow systems to be bought by individuals, AND there is a company out there (fullyloadedelectronics.com) that has worked with other states (NH) to purchase systems from them. (they tell me that they are also working on getting clear casings, but that hasnt been an issue in the other states). considering the high level of tensions inside, with lockdowns 23+ hours/day, it does seem a harmless distraction and a good way to keep the peace, so to speak . we have been writing to the CCC at the main offices...
