Inmate Death Being Investigated as a Suspected Homicide - Noriega

TUCSON – Criminal investigators with the Arizona Department of Corrections (ADC) are investigating the death of inmate Richard Noriega, 30, ADC #240083, as a suspected homicide. Paramedics transported inmate Noriega to Banner-University Medical Center, South Campus Monday afternoon after prison staff observed him unresponsive, but breathing, in his assigned housing location. Inmate Noriega died this morning.

This is sad. Every story that gets posted here is. These instances show how unsafe the prisons are and that things obviously need to be done for changes to be made. Yet, time and time again, nothing happens.
What shocks me in these cases that are/possibly homicides is that the guards don't intervene soon enough. You cannot possibly tell me that none of the guards heard anything? The didn't notice an inmate not coming out of their cell for that long and didn't think to go check them? Sure.
It's unfortunate that prisons systems prove to be more unsafe than the streets so much. All over the country, from coast to coast. Maybe one day someone in a "power" position will do something to make the changes to keep inmates safer while they do their time.
My condolences to everyone involved.

It is very sad @duckblind405! Unfortunately there are many times that nobody sees anything. There simply aren't enough CO's to watch all the inmates all the time and the inmates know where the cameras are. Then again...I know a guy who was in Lewis Stiner years ago and the guy in front of him in the show line killed the guy in front of him...an entire pod stepped over the guy and by the time everyone was through the chow line and sat down it was too late and nobody got charged with it. It's crazy and scary and happens ALL the time. Of all the things I worry about, my hubby getting in trouble, getting more time, raising our daughter with Daddy in prison...what I worry about most is him not coming home. I tell him every day...do what you gotta do but come home alive.

I know my man wants a cellmate... but it's stories like these that frighten me so!

RIP Mr Noriega.
