Default Typing letters on unlined paper vs lined paper

A while ago keltra, administrator, posted a sticky about snailmail to IDOC facilities.

When I first tried to write Josh, I typed and printed (on copy paper, unlined) two letters and sent them. They did not get through.

Keltra says that if I do the same thing (if I understand correctly) but use lined paper, they'll let it get through (assuming nothing else is wrong with it). So, if I get a notebook (the one i have has perforated pages along the spiral binding) and tear out some pages, put them in my ink jet printer, and then print out my letter, it will pass, whereas without the lines it would not.

I just wanted to highlight this distinction (unless I read her post wrong) so that if anyone wants to type rather than write, like I do because my letters look like a page of doctor's signatures, you can do that but just substitute the unlined paper for lined paper.

I will try it and report back.

If keltra or anyone already knows that I read wrong and this won't work, please let me know here.

I haven't experienced that myself, but I have heard about it.

The theory is that drugs were getting smuggled into the prison by soaking pages in a solution of whatever the drug is. Supposedly, if lined paper is used then the process of soaking the paper will obliterate the lines, so by requiring lined paper they can stop the drug.

May I add, please be sure not to eat while writing letters and wash hands before writing. My niece's husband's letter was denied due to "unknown substance" likely some type of food/grease since he was eating while he wrote her letter.
