Unhappy Home 1 year & struggling: Any work for ex cons in Northern California?

so when I made this account 7 years ago, I was waiting for my fiance to get out of jail and I had no felonies.... fast forward I have 16 felonies, 3 prison terms(3 years was my longest), divorced, was a victim of domestic violence, and he had many affairs, i can't get a good job or hold one, and I have a hard time getting clean... I've only been out one year.

if I could take it all back I would. I wish I never waited for him. but I did. and I finally divorced him and am trying to get my act together. if anyone knows of any work for ex cons in northern California, San Jose area of really appreciate it. I don't want to go back to prison

I'm so sorry you have been struggling. I don't live in California, but I would suggest looking into factory jobs. You might have to work a harder manual job or work nights but at least it's a job. I hope you find something.

Try Goodwill, I know they hire felons. Many temp services do, too. I worked several months at a UPS warehouse...pay was pretty decent, but the hours were long (10-12 hours per shift).

You can also try Indeed and Jobsforfelons.

Have you thought about going back to school? Pell grants do not have to be paid back

...stay strong!

Some states will pay your tuition and other costs for vo-tech schools. I got my degree in HVAC after getting released. It's a good field that will always have a need for good skilled technicians.

Does anyone spiral into control?

Am from the bay & I think Budweiser & ups will hire people wit a felony. But depending on whatever you have on your record you can try the post office. I know for the holiday season they hire alot of people.

What skills do you have or what type of work can you do? Have you reached out to any groups in your area? Here are a couple to check into.
Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County has several programs & they do help those dealing with incarceration. Try contacting them. https://www.catholiccharitiesscc.org/economic-security
ConXion is a nonprofit that has a work program you might check. Here's a link to them. http://conxion.org/workforce/#Job
Santa Clara Reentry Services might be able to help. Here's a link to their contact info.https://www.sccgov.org/sites/reentry.../Contacts.aspx

I’m not looking for possible employment for anyone but I took a look at the JobsForFelons website .. there are tons of opportunities for those with a record. They’re not “corner office” jobs but one has to start somewhere, and these jobs offer just that .. a starting place. There can be an upward trajectory from almost any starting position; if nothing else, you’re building a solid work history with reliable references that are necessary for any type of advancement. So, get started with your good attitude and you’ll do better and better. Good luck to you!!
