Default Phone charges less with local cell phone number

I understand that you get 300 minutes for $69.00 or .23 cents per minute. But is it correct that if we get a local phone number it will still be 300 minutes but cost less than $69.00? I apologize if this comes in twice but my posts have not been showing up.

This is true! 300 minutes, and if it's local, it is cheaper!!! I actually bought a cell phone with a number local to where my boyfriend is. So when he calls that cell phone, it doesn't cost near as much as it does for him to call his parents or his other friends!!!

It would probably cost more to get a local number where your son is than the $69.00 for the 300 minutes.
I can't remember, where did they send him? VA or West VA? I can look back at my emails and see. Also, send me his address and I will try to write him some, maybe cards, whatever.
With my love to you and your family always!!

PS...how are the grandbabies?

A cell phone didn't even occur to me....that very well could be a good thing. Of course it would have to be local for him.

You'd have to do the cost comparison. You have to compare, not just his cost of the phone calls but figure in the cost to you of the cell phone service monthly as well. And have him make sure, at his facility, that cell phone numbers are allowed.

I have a local number for my hubby to call me and it runs him $18.00 instead of $69.00 per month for 300 minutes. Before he self surrendered, we switched his cell phone number to a local Beaumont number. My cost is still the same as before he left, so it benefits me alot. Saves me almost 50 bucks per month.

if you have a cell phone, and you have one of the companies where you can add a line, they should be able to give you a phone number that would be a local call for him. Make sure that you check the prefix and not just the area code.

To clarify, the $69.00 is what the federal inmate pays for 300 minutes. I'm looking at possible ways to reduce that dollar amount. Your charges would remain the same. Or could get higher if you have to add a line. In my case, I have a cell line that I seldom use. I might try to get cingular to give me a new mumber local to my son. And I already know that he can call cell numbers.

Virgin Mobile has a phone plan for 300 minutes anytime plus 1000 minutes nights and weekends for 35.00. I got the number local to his camp and he pays 6 cents a minute and I pay 35.00. The phone was 19.00. I only use the phone for him and this is really cheaper for us. Hope this helps!
